Listen Up Linux Mint 17 Released

^^^ This is the release candidate of Mint. Although I'm fairly sure applied updates bring it to the full release, I'll be waiting until the official version is out before putting on my home PC.

Samsung Galaxy vs. Google Nexus Android tablets

Keep your eye on http://www.ibood.com/uk/en in the meantime Certainly seen a good few tablets pop up on there. I (and others) have bought from them and they are reliable in my experience. Delivery cost is a little high perhaps and it can take a week until it ships but you could get a slightly...

    Linux Mint 16 "Petra"

The big(ish) issue for those wanting to put Linux on newer hardware (and retain dual boot) is UEFI by all accounts. I only use Mint 16 at home and can live without MS Windows for everything except one of the kids electronic devices. The trouble is my netbook is nearing the end of it's useful...

    Classic Confectionery

I rem Quattro - it was definitely full of horrible chemicals to make it that mad green colour! You can buy a different selection of Cadburys bars here in Ireland, including Tiffin bars. My sister in law stocks up on them when she comes over..... It must be due to us being the 2nd highest...

    BBC3 discussion

One thing that worries me for those of us outside the UK, but within the Sat footprint is- He admitted this was the first time the BBC had ever proposed closing a TV channel - and warned he could not "rule out it being the last change to our programmes or services" So the start of more...

    Astra 2E: Western Europe Reports

About the *only* benefit is RTE2 for the UEFA Champions league coverage. They tend to have the Wed night game which ITV doesn't.

    Astra 2E: Western Europe Reports

Being as there is no report from Ireland, here's one from Mayo.... I see that 2E is slightly weaker on the UK spot than 2F 2E is around 82% 2F is around 98%

    Linux Mint 16 "Petra"

There's two favours of Mint (well 3 if you include the rolling Debian release). I run the MATE desktop as it is supposed to be less resource hungry than the Cinnamon version for lower spec'd laptops etc. You may have read that the Cinnamon version is 'buggy'. I believe it may be slightly less...

Summer heatwave (!) & BBQ weather chat 2013

Yeap same thing known as peat in England/Wales/Scotland. Always known in that form as turf here in the West of Ireland. Others will be more familiar with lawn/grass turf, meaning a roll of grass for laying in the garden. The only reference to peat here is the stuff that you get in compost bags...

Summer heatwave (!) & BBQ weather chat 2013

What about some turf to "mix it up a bit"? (Yes it all had to go by hand through that little door on the right....) ;) I have chopped wood as well..... In fact felling some more trees tomorrow for next years supply.

    Ses Want Frequency Of Eutelsat

I have in the past for Eutelsat but it makes very little difference on that box. I just expected 2F to be a stronger signal much like 1N is at present. Perhaps with my setup and the length of the cable run, anything on a TP of 12000 and above doesn't come in as well.

    Ses Want Frequency Of Eutelsat

Regarding Planet Rock. When this was on Eutelsat I got around 45-55% quality and would suffer dropouts due to rain. I was very pleased it moved to Astra 1N as I get that at 98% quality. But I noticed on Astra 2F PE beam it's only 60%. I'm surprised as I expected a better signal from 2F. I'm in...

Some definite info on the BBC channels moving off 1N

Slightly narrow minded comment by Alix Pryde on behalf of the BBC, as I sit here watching the BBC channels on my Sky ROI EPG.

    Astra 2F: Western Europe Discussion

Have a look at slide #25 & 26 here @ www.ses.com/11572422/120522_CDO_Investor_Day_FINAL from 22nd May 2012. The interesting thing is slide #26 is stamped 'corrected slide' - so what date was it corrected....? But taken at face value it infers that 2F was always scheduled to be a replacement...
