Hi all, I am looking for advice on which receiver to buy to easily get feeds, by that i mean reports / presenters etc getting ready for live broadcasts ..

I currently have a Foxsat HDR and a 95cm Triax motorised dish and a cheap inverto twin LNB, with a STAB HH90 motor

i set it up over the last few days, and its all working now in usals mode. ( after much faffing about ) :)

but i have discovered my humax foxsat HDR cannot accept New satellites, and punching new transponders is a faf as it does not permanently store them..

so.... my question is .WHICH satellite receiver do i buy ? so many makes available now , I'm out the loop..
technomate vu etc etc

I'm looking for something HD ( obvious) but something open and no hidden menus and a twin tuner would be good, and recording facility and most importantly ..suitable for feed hunting ??

i seem to have rambled on a bit .. lol :)
Cheers Rob

That's a bit of an open ended question.

Have you played with enigma2?

If you are a newbie perhaps a technomate 5402, or tm5302.

Both single tuner.

One of the best tuners out there is a tbs sat card, does most formats, inc 4:2:2, apsk, but they cost a pretty penny, but worth it.

thanks Chris, yes i am a newbie, well to the modern stuff, i used to hunt feeds in the analogue days, it was easy then..

regarding the tbs sat card, wich would be the one to buy for my setup ? i see there's a few variations,
i assume they are USALS capable ?
is it this one ?
TBS6902 DVB-S2 Dual Tuner HD Satellite PCIe Tuner Card Watch Record TV on a PC

I'm happy to use a PC based sat receiver as a ham radio guy, i use a PC based Transceiver, so no worries there, saying that, if a STB can do the same thing, it might be easier for regular tv viewing too.

just trying to get a clue guys,
what is the Best STB ? ie, the all bells and whistles one every would have ?

as to the enigma 2 etc, just to clarify, I'm not wanting a "free gif" box.. already have sky, like the skybox record facility too much to consider an alternative, plus the family could never get used to it :)

cheers rob

I use a tbs 6983, but that's been superseded now. Costs about £180 ish when I got mine.

Very easy to use with loads of dvb player programme.

For feed hunting you can use easy blind scan or crazyscan.

Yes the card is usals and diseqc compatable.

I have a 1.5 dish, with ku-band/c-band/ka-band 18ghz & 20ghz.

My 1.2 dish is fixed on 5e and a couple of lnb's on the side, at 9e and 1w.

On my 1.0 dish I have the ka/ku combo on 7e.

I use a tm5302 from my 1.5 dish, loopthrough out to my tbs card.

On the 1.0m dish and the 1.2m dish I have the second cable going to one input on my vu duo, and 1 of the sky feeds to the other tuner.

If it's the 4K stuff you want then you will need a very large PC. My core i3, gtx680 gpu, 8gb ram isn't enough for it.

There are some really good enigma 2 boxes, but it's not for the newbie. Need some knowable of telnet, etc. They seem to be like marmite you will either love it or hate it.

Crazy scan does a blind scan, subject to the settings. This is an example crazyscan I posted a while ago

Both my posts from other sections.

But crazyscan and easy blind scan all do the same thing.

Once set up point it to the satellite you want and click scan.

You can also export the data for enigma2 Xml file or for most dvb player programs.

Ebspro is a paid for bit of software, but doesn't cost the earth. If you can get the tbs 6983 it's a cracking bit of kit, but has been superseded.

And it is capable of multi stream.

Happy hunting :D

i can see the TBS 6903 which is the newer 6983
so just to clarify, if i buy the 6983, would that be worth while or would the cheaper TBS6902 suit ?

also, if i buy the 6983 do i need anything else ? or do i just plug in the 2 f connectors to the motor and dish and I'm off ?

i assume i can record straight to the pc hard drive ?

sorry but I'm just trying to get clued up chris :)
cheers rob

The recording etc would be done by the dvb player programs. Lots of them to choose from.

If you can get a 6983, 1 or 2 cables from your dish and you should be off.

Can't help you with the newer numbers of cards, as I haven't been looking.

Or as @william-1 said

The TM5502HD or TM5302HD are the best for feed hunting.

Have a read of this thread it may help you:-
The equipment used for the feeds in this section.

They make good boxes, for feed hunting.

seems the only difference is the 5502 can take an internal HDD the 5302 cannot ..

Unless I am missing something, tbs6922 together with easyblindscan tool is enough for most of the transmissions...

s

which is better William ?
thanks rob :)

They are both very good but I prefer the 5502HD as it works better on all satellite transponders with the Inverto Black Ultra 0.2 Lnb + 100cm Gibertini,

The TH5302HD works ok on feed satellites but has issues with the Inverto Black Ultra on 28.2 east,19.2 east & 13 east where some transponders show no signals on my 88cm mesh dish,
to overcome this I use a 0.1 Lnb most of the good quality ones work ok with this set up.

Trying the TM5302HD IBU with the 100cm has the same issues with some transponders on 28.2 east,19.2 east & 13 east showing no signals.
