Now, I know that Gibertini are good dishes, but I am on a budget. Looking on Ebay I can get a new 1m dish for under £50. Surely a dish that costs half the price of a Gibby can't be all that bad....can it???

The only thing is you are sure of the quality of a Gibi and I don't think the quality of a 1M dish you can buy will be all that good. No good spending £50 now for you to see the dish buckling the next time there's a gale. By the way, you can get hold of a 1M Gibi for less than £100....I've seen them advertised on HM Sat in Germany for €69 + shipping.

That could be useful to know Pete. Do they do them in dark grey as I don't want a light one as it'll stand out like sore thumb :)

Grau means grey.

It seems to be lichtgrau.

What you want is anthrazit.

You can guess what that means.:)

Also the difference between the L series and X series is not obvious. The main one is

Gibertini OP 100 L have unpainted metal LNB arms and so are cheaper than X series

Gibertini OP 100 X have LNB arms painted the same colour as the dish face.

The Orbital 1m is a good option for a budget dish, i have had mine almost 4 years now and it has been excellent

In fact it was far far better than a 1.1m Triax i bought

Just did a quick ebay search and the Orbital 1m is around £55 inc delivery

Hope this helps :)

Looking on Ebay I can get a new 1m dish for under £50.

What is the make of the dish?

The main points to compare are how rigid is the connection to the pole or motor, how long and rigid is the part which holds onto the dish which stops it flopping in a strong wind, and how rigid is the LNB arm assembly?

You can see it is worth paying a few bob more ;) for something that will last decades.

Yes the aluminum Orbital 1m is good, the rather flimsy LNB arm is quite well connected to the dish but iirc the connection to the dish face is not so rigid as with the Gibertini and the paint and coating on the dish is much more durable on the Gibertini.

The Triax is well built and has a great durable coating that bird poop washes off easily but the elevation thing is a nightmare, fine tuning is so difficult.

Ever seen a massive bird poop get wedged into the holes in a $ly mini dish? :-ohmy

I have an 80cm Orbital and it is robust yet easy to adjust and is in excellent nick after six years.

I agree on the Gib being a better quality of dish, i had a 1.25m Gib for 6 months and the quality was great, however if the op dosnt have the budget for a Gib the Orbital would be a nice compromise on price for him, just my opinion of course

and pmsl @ bird poop in the mini dish :D

Well... the last dish I bought new was the Penta 85, which is a good performer. Since then, all of my dishes were 2nd hand, with the most expensive being the 1.5m Gibertini in the avatar which cost just £80...

Last Saturday I picked up a 90cm Fibo for just £18. Sure, it needs a little work but for that price, I cannot grumble.

Not just the quality, the rigidity of the 1m is superior to the Orbital.

Yes, we all seem to agree on that point. No one is keen to contemplate the torture of the Triax elevation mess which ruins an otherwise wonderful dish.

2 Tony1a: Do you have size restriction? If not really, than go for 1,2m plastic Channel Master. I think it is possible to get one used for about the same money. But, for sure used CM will be better than any new made in China antennas. IMHO.

No restriction, but I don't want to go more than 1 metre :) There is a Technomate dark grey 1m for £38.95?

Tony, can you remind us what size your current dish is? ('Cos I've forgotten!)

Taking the longest axis

97cm Technomate

104cm Gibertini

105cm Orbital, Triax

Obviously there is not any real difference between 104cm and 105cm.

The smaller size of the Technomate will mean less gain but it may well be more than your existing dish so you will still gain more signal for less money.
