Runaway Train is one of those films I continue to watch if flicked past on a channel hop, the cinematography is amazing.

Roughly based on a screenplay by legendary Akira Kurosawa, probably Voight's best outing (Deliverance was Reynolds film)

Now in glorious small screen for not a lot.

It is a shame that some films with English soundtracks on the original film are not always available with this audio on ARTE just the German & French audio despite 4 stereo audio tracks being available on the 3 HD versions 19.2E,13E & 5W + SD version on 19.2E,
Sometimes they do broadcast the English soundtrack if they feel like it

Make sure you watch the Hotbird version of Arte,to access an English soundtrack!
the astra 1 version gives only French or German soundtrack, sometimes only German...ideal for Sissi!
Strange that on German channels(all astra 1 German channels),generally, very little stuff is available in English, despite the good level in English of most German people!

I have been using the timer of the receiver to record some English films on Arte. I have the Amiko Alien 2 audio on "qaa" rather than "qad". Then I can listen to the films in original English language. But the recording is always in French dubbing.
What am I doing wrong ?

Check the william-1 post, number 23 in this thread:

I would also check out One HD, on 19.2E, as this also broadcasts an English soundtrack, on some television shows, including Doctor Who, and Doctor Who classics, and is FTA.

I do not have a motor to move the disc to 19,2 east, it is pointed at Hotbird at 13 east.
We can sometimes listen to films in original language on Arte whether it is English or Icelandic etc. but to record it in that original language does not work.
I can set the audio in menu on "language" as priority or "dolby digital". Neither affects the recording, it seems...

Try the recorded file on a computer using a player like VLC. If the original audio channel is available then it's a problem with the playback on the Amiko.

Have you checked the audio option when playing the recording?
When you record something you can record multiple soundtracks, and select one during playback.
You might consider a 6 degree monoblock LNB, so you can get 13E, and 19.2E.

"a 6 degree monoblock LNB"

I wonder if the quality of viewing from either satellite is affected using this equipment ?
Certainly I will consider getting it.
I remember I could watch programs from both Astra 19,2 and Hotbird 13 when staying in Germany. In Italy also I think.
Must have been then due to this tool !

i confirm this, here in south France, monoblocks work fine.
Then,in Iceland the angles between Astra & Hotbird must be different...local electro shops must know how to do things.
Check with Spanish,Italian immigrants ,they ll sure know

An extra LNB, multi LNB bracket & DiSEqC switch will perform better than a monoblock.

Then,in Iceland the angles between Astra & Hotbird must be different..

In Paris (France) the angular difference between 13.0E and 19.2E is about 6.8 degrees,
In Reykjavik (Iceland) it is about 6.5 degrees.
So the difference between the 2 locations is rather small.

As in the monoblock LNB, the LNBs do not touch, that means that you might also use two separate LNBs.
However, it might be difficult as LNBholders often are rather thick; so not allowing LNBs to be close together.
That is the advantage of a monoblock LNB: it allows two LNBs to be close together.
But the distance between the LNBs must fit the dish (effective focal length) and the angular difference at your location....

@Rutep : Did you check the satbeams of 13E and 19E at Iceland? If an 80cm dish would be big enough for the signal of 13E and 19E?

Greetz,

You can find a lot of classic movies on Youtube, which, in a lot of cases are free, and old TV series on sites like Dailymotion.
I recently downloaded the original My Man Godfrey, from Youtube, and viewed episodes of Rumpole of the Bailey, uncensored, on Dailymotion, you would be amazed how many television shows are edited, on British television, which you can find on the internet, uncensored.

I also tend to use KODI, on my VU+ Duo2, as I can download some films, like Drive Angry, Riddick, as well as old TV shows, like Agatha Christies Poirot, and many more. There are a lot of options, these days, for viewing, that don't rely on satellite.
I never watch any terrestrial television, and tend to watch a lot of Youtube channels, like Beau of the Fifth Column, Lehto's Law, MSNBC, CNN, The Young Turks, Brian Tyler Cohen, Rich rebuilds, Samcrac, Audit the Audit, The Institute for Justice, and numerous others, when I have time.

Something is wrong with the EPG on Arte.
I can only see the next program, not the schedule for the whole week.
Can you see it ?
I thought it was maybe related to my old receiver but I can see the schedule right of Deutsche Welle for example.

Nobody here knows about monoblock but LNB holders are known. How can I find out about the satbeams ? LyngSat Maps
