Do you sense a defeat here?
On the bright side, you could get 3-4 months dragged out on £10 per month. Or I think they'll do a free install with free box for multiroom?

There is a way of getting around the phone line..Very simple indeed.

Hmm guys - I'm still wandering around i circles to find out about the sky card..
I have been informed - and read several places - also in this thread - that a sky card will work fine in a dreambox..
I'm OK with that - so far..
But it is new to me that I need a boxid..!

I have actually gone ahead and ordered a sky card - but not a box - cause I want to use it in my DB..
So - will I be able to do that without a boxid..?

I have an old skybox - but that one has not been in use for 5 years..can I use the boxid from that one..? If at all needed..?

Yes, you need to at first get the card activated in a genuine Sky digibox, then you can use it in your Dreambox. If your old digibox has not been in use for five years, then you need to get it connected and upfdate the software on it, either by leaving it online or doing a forced update, otherwise it will not recognise the card.

is it a FTV card or Sky subscription you'll be running?
btw the old Sky box will need a software update to activate the card IIRC
you know how to do that with the backup key on the box?

What I have ordered is an official SKY+ subscription card..

Regarding the update of the ol' skybox: I live outside the UK - in the middle of Europe - will I be able to update it from here..?

..and - no - haven't tried the update via the backup button - but maybe it would be straight forward to do this..?

You should be able to update from Luxembourg.

PS. What do you mean by a Sky + card, if you are not using a Sky+ digibox, then there is no need to ask for Sky+ activation, as it isn't needed for recording on the Dreambox.

argh - darn - that's right - I had the choise to select a standard card or a + card - so out of beginners dumbness I went ahead with the latter - I thought that's what I would like to do - record on the DB harddrive..
Well - that's EUr30 waisted then..

It won't work reddevil. The sky cards are tied to a digibox and you will need one to get the card to work....and you will have to get sky to initialise it in the box.

Hi... i get Sky UK, dunno how much we pay but its MUCH LESS than the £35 we pay here for our cable company! We have two dreamboxes and 1 sky card with all the channels except the XXX and Box OFFICE. It does work... sky card (activated in a sky digi box) and then inserted into a dreambox. And i'm currently watching Mr. Bean on Nickelodeon UK!! ;) Enjoy! lol ;) :D

to update software on the Digibox.....

Pull out the mains cable from the back of the box
Wait 10 seconds
Press and HOLD the BACKUP button on the BOX
Reconnect power, still HOLDING BACKUP
Hold backup for 10 seconds until the screen changes.....

No phone line is required.
You will have to call Sky to pair the card to the box - have the details from the SERVICES - 4 - 5 screen. And post the versions for EPG and Operating Systems here before you do.

Leee, I would advise against pulling the lead out of the back of the box, there is a chance that it may damage the power supply when reconnecting a live cable (I have had it happen), better to switch off the plug at the wall.

..or I could call the City Elec. Supplier and ask him to pull the big handle for 10 secs - and then on again..he..he..

Yeah - I was almost expecting a reply like this from u - when you saw the stoneage specs..he..he..
..do I need to have the new card inserted for the software update..? And can I do the update before I receive the new card..?
I do not have the card yet..
I only tried out of curiosity to switch it on for getting the specs - and also connected the cable - but no channels available..
