Can anyone remember when the last sky uk swap was? I take it that it only happens every few years.

Hello all.
I am in Greece and I receive all the usual free stuff with my Sky box and Yellow House card. Will this card swap make any difference to me? Will I have to do anything to keep on receiving the very little UK TV I get now? I also have a Dutch CanalSat system with the minimal channels and its getting very boring. It would be fine if I spoke German/French/Italian etc but I'm limited to English and a little Greek!
looks like you have a double problem then : new Sky card, and if you have a CanalDigitaal card to go with the Canalsat system they're also swapping cards currently (from seca2 to seca3).

Its imminent - the Sky card swap has already started in a limited way. Give it a couple of months to get well under way - remember theres getting on for 9 million cards to swap over.

Wow - just done some quick sums, I can see why Sky arn't keen to swap cards out that often.

Assuming -
each replacement card costs 1p to build, and print the letter;
They've negotiated a special postage rate, say 15p per letter;
Thats £2,250,000
Then add on Development/Testing/Training and then ongoing support costs. Thats a bit of a dent in budgets when advertising revenues are down, channels churn I expect is increasing, and the number of people either cancelling or not paying their bills is on the increase.

Having said that, If we assume that the average monthly payment from subs to sky is £30, thats £270 million a month, £3 million isn't much of a drop in the ocean! ChaChing! That goes some way to explain their near £5bn turnover last year :)

You can pair the card again to a new box without calling sky.

The go for New Install
press select over the next 3 screens until it says chan scan pls wate

If the box is connected to a live tel line the card will pair on skys sys

Someone on another board is claiming to be successfully sharing a new (White) Sly UK card.

This has not been confirmed by any other members yet, but it appears that the card is being read/shared directly under CCcam.

Sorry missed this a few weeks back.

I have attempted to do this with already activated cards in the past and found it not to work, normally it will only work on a non-activated card.

The new white cards which have been replacing blue ones don't authorise in any box other than the original one.. Even the 4,0,1 new install - doesn't remove the message 'this viewing card is not authorised' - upgrading via interactive doesn't change this message either..

For people trying to change pairing at same time - it should be noted in my case sky refused to match this box via phone to the newer box - the original must be physically present to change pairing - then sky will temporarily pair the old blue card, and 24hrs later then then white one can be used ..

If anyone knows of exceptions be happy to know about this.

I have a freeview Sky card. I don't know where I can get a upgrade for it. Any suggestions ? I am thinking about buying a new freeview card if I have to.

PLEASE get the terminology right. Freeview is the UK's dtt service via the tv aerial, & using it in the wrong context just causes confusion.

FSFS comprises

Sky 3
Five
Five USA / +1
Fiver / +1
Setanta Sports News
Channel 4 HD (on HD boxes only obviously

The C5 family of channels will go fta on Astra 2D sooner or later, as will C4 HD.

Sky 3 will probably go back to being a pay channel, and lord only knows what Sultana will do with their pretty awful sports news channel.

Mind you with Setanta's financial problems its quite possible SSN wont be around much longer :D

Also the FSFS card opens

CH4, CH4+1 on 12480V (Irish versions)
ITV mer SE, Mer N, Anglia W, YorksE, TTS and Central SW on 12402V

These are the main ones used by those without access to 2D and I think these are the ones most ex-pats are concerned about.

At present the simple answer is no-one really knows what will happen. The card swap will take a few months yet and by then we may have a better Idea.

How long does the card changeover take ?

Thanks for the other info. I will know when NDSv2 drops out of use and NDSv3 takes over.
