Astra 2D and the north beams of 2A/2B are the weak ones
However 2A/2B north are stronger than 2D
So getting them would be easy if couldn't catch 2D
2D have only 5-6 Sky channels(mostly useless)

Typically if go big dish i will get 4.8-6.3 Meter as i don't really know what will happen when new satellites are launched.(also to get good signals)

about the array i did a good enough research and it will cost about 9000$ (installing myself and learning)
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
(main reasons for high price : Agilent spectrum analyzer working at native Ku-band on 50 ohm cable out of "WG to coax" connected to the feed horn on the dish,
and 12 GHZ WG amplifiers, and these two things are the most of the costs ,considering renting a spectrum analyzer!)
rental cost 1100$-5000$ per month depending on model/features and shipping/etc will be total of 2500$
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A big dish would cost 3000,5000$ depending on size and option (GDsatcom Prodelin)dont know installation costs, license availability and price
My isp didnt allow me to get leased line if we took that as a scale then 99.9% no one will give me a big dish license
the sales man told that they will use load frames to mount it safe on the roof top

thats all

By the way i forgot to ask which cam will do in the dreambox and does it need software mod. for any of the receiver and cam or not?

Check the beam maps, on sites like lyngsat, kingofsat and flysat to check which channels you can receive and what size dish you require. Of course the maps are only a guide, it would be best to check with anyone local who is able to get Astra 2 28.2E and confirm which channels they can get, the signal strength/quality and if they lose any at certain times of the day or in bad weather.

Replied as you were postiung your last reply, you seem to have already researched which channels you can get.

map checking about 360CM is recommended for 2D specificly
90% of Sky channels are on 2A/2B north south

You would be better off getting Sky Italia - many of the same channels & programming on a 60/80 cm dish and $9000 will pay for a lot of years subscriptions!

The box menus are in Italian but the receivers are similar enough to the UK boxes to get around without too many problems.

Of course they arent exact copies.

You can find reasonably up to date current channel list on Wiki.

You can expect sports, movies, discovery & national geographic type stuff. Much of the pay stuff has English language soundtracks.

its Not as the original sky of course
However i can put it as a third option in the list,so i can go for it if i cant get option 1&2(array&big dish)

about previous Q's:
since the dreambox can decrypt NDS/VideoGuard with a good cam ,box key, original subs. card

can this be done with italia too!
also what the cam and soft for this to work

Thanks

Unless you have got the military budget of a small African nation forget any kind of array - its not feasible on any hobby scale

Its been discussed numerous times on the forum over the years and every time has been dismissed as "a nice idea but....."

+1 for Sky Italy. Most of the channels are the same and most have English soundtrack.

And yes, a Dreambox (or any Linux type receiver) can take a valid Sky Italia card.

isn't dreambox basicly the best and most popular linux receiver
if so i am planning to get one
if you know other good linux receivers i would like to know some other brands and compare

about the array its not impossible however its really out of a hobby scope
the reason i sticked to the idea isn't the channels or anything about fringe...its simply that i got impressed by the idea specially when i read stuff about it.
i thought to my self that i would learn some good stuff and it would be fun(i planned to do the project by my self installing, analyzing, settibng the WG's...etc)
it would have taken months if did the project!

and yes if its only about the channels i would get a big dish if i can!

or go for option italia...

Fun fact: the HUMAX iCORD HD+ is linux however it can't decrypt sky!

You need to read up on Enigma and Enigma2 based receivers. Dreambox is the most popular, but I wouldn't call it the "best". From personal experience Vu+ ones blow any Dreambox out of the water. Tuners in DB are generally cr@p, are prone to overheating and cost generally double their cheaper, better, competitors.

There's also CT Xtrends, Technomates running the same OS... but you really need to read up on stuff before making flawed conclusions.

And if you just want to watch TV, just get an official Sky Italy box and watch it using that. I would never watch Sky in my Uno, simply because it's nowhere near as user friendly as a Sky box. Uno is solely for tinkering about (can't remember last I actually properly watched anything on that).

Depends what you want. From my list of receivers the old DB7020 blows everything else out of the water.

Ive got a Vu+ Duo which many folk love but for what I want (tinkering and looking for new channels) its pretty much useless as much of the signal chasing functionality is missing or restricted. (eg no autofec on DVB-S2)

I hate its software and hardly ever use it. Ive been tempted to take out outside and reprogramme it with the sharp end of a pickaxe and give it a decent burial in a deep hole more than once! :D

Dont get me wrong - if you have it set up and just want to watch some tv with it then its a great receiver, I just dont like the way some things have been implemented, and the bugs in the BH image Ive found.
