What is it with duracell batteries:-IMG_1711.JPGIMG_1712.JPG

It's a new packet of 8 batteries, and the one in the clock has also suffered the same fate :( that's a yuppie in the photo.

Now going to start checking my remotes and other devices to throw away the Duracell's

Never seen a fake Duracell, but I have had several leaks like the one you posted, they may have changed the formula due to EPA standards, (can't get the good stuff anymore) they last for the labeled time in the package, but not in service.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Wouldn't touch a Duracell if you paid me these days, I've had them (the genuine ones bought in reputable shops) leak like that in several devices, some I managed to restore with a bit of vinegar on the contacts, others, completely fubar thanks to duracell not bothering to test their batteries & their chemistry properly...

Buy your alkaline batteries at Lidl or Aldi. No-one counterfeits those!

I have removed all Duracell Chris, ruined a couple of remotes and my Weather Station LED screen, all caused by leaking. I used to swear by Duracell, now won't touch them with a bargepole!

My gripe this week is calling my health insurance institution (like the NHS) and they insisted that I give them my mobile number instead of landline number, otherwise they wouldn't deal with my problem.
Also today I tried to call for a technician to service my fridge and after waiting more than 10 minutes on hold, they gave me the option to leave my telephone number and they would call back. When I gave them my landline number, I got a response that the number is incorrect. Obviously they expected a mobile number format.
I have a mobile phone but I don't use it much only in case of emergency. I just hate the little gadget that is responsible for so many road accidents and making our children behave like zombies with their eyes glued to the little screen.

I entirely agree about Mobile Phones.

Like you, I have one, a cheap PAYG one, that I use "in extremis" - As evidenced by the fact that I turned it on yesterday to find a Text from my neighbour from four days ago with instructions for looking after various things for them while they're on holiday.... They went four days ago!

Apart from work/business, I cannot honestly understand why people want to be so "connected" at all times. When we go to the pub after bell-ringing practice, most of the others have their phones in their hands or on the table. It's really antisocial.

I wish I have a PAYG option. All the mobile companies here have a monthly contract and I pay a relatively a lot of money for something that I don't use. The only useful thing I did with it was to install few satellite finding Apps and that was fun getting my exact location using a GPS.

Returning to UK after a great week in France and after finally getting off the boat having to wait almost stationary in the queue for 30 minutes to reach passport control. Grr

Which is one of the HUGE advantages of travelling by the Channel Tunnel. All the paperwork is dispensed with before loading onto the train and, once the train stops on the other side, after about 5 minutes for opening up and safety checks you drive out and straight on to the motorway network (either side).

You do pay for the privilege though, it's more expensive than the ferry. Mind you it's also a fair bit quicker - 35 minutes to cross as opposed to 90 minutes. This translates into a real world saving of about an hour to an hour and a half. You also have a slight saving on travelling (for most people) as the stations are further inland compared to the ferry ports.

Totally agree, although for the last little while we've avoided Calais because of the 'problems.' Calais, also, means we have a bit further to drive in UK, but also an extra 3 hours drive in France, so we realistically need to use Portsmouth.
I agree that having passport control on France is a great idea, but that isn't realistic when you have 3 French ports feeding into Portsmouth, so each Port only handles 3 or so boats a day, and border control only man 3 or 4 booths to handle 200 plus vehicles.

Amazon really hack me off, I ordered the a-team complete dvd boxset, I clicked the free delivery option saving me £2.99.

I got an email this morning to tell me that they will dispatch my order after the 14th July, it will take 3-5 days for delivery.

Then it tells me that if I had amazon prime I could have tomorrow!

Nothing I can do now but wait......

Didn't realise you were taking one of the longer routes. How does the extra time taken to drive compare with the extra time of the crossing? And the extra time for officialdom...

If you're going for the western side of France then I can quite imagine that there's a saving. But if you're going south, or southeast as we do, then I worked this out some time ago that the short crossing is best for us.

They had their hands full with Prime Day.
You are lucky you can sign up to Amazon Prime, get shipments fast and enjoy Amazon Video.
I have to wait for few weeks for any items, they go through our horrible Israel post services (very bad services but they are improving slowly lately)
This is available only in the UK (or the USA, Germany, etc.)

Amazon Prime can be very patchy. If your order comes via one of the reputable couriers or even La Poste it's almost guaranteed to arrive the next working day. If it's someone else, you could wait up to a week or ten days. Sadly, there's no way of telling which method of dispatch your seller is going to use...

When I order an item, I get a tracking number which tells me which courier is handling the shipment.
Don't they give such information using Amazon Prime?

Channel Hopper was hopping back and forth across the channel to Brussels in talks at the EU headquarters with Lord Haw Haw. Lord Haw Haw stated the UK could have access to all the EU benefits on its own terms with no annual fees to pay. The only condition is Channel Hopper becomes UK PM by the 14th July 2017. Lord Haw Haw stated, anyone is better than Maggie Mayormaynot and Comrade Corwhereshebin.
