Almost there ..
been filing non stop for about 4 hours ..
Fits quite well ..and could force it down flat ..but this isn't the SL3 it is being fitted in ..and I want it removeable ..so a tiny bit more to do ..
Here are the pics of the ally spectacle rims almost complete..

Wouldn't a Dremel be any use to you VS, I would be lost without mine at times.
Sadly my dremel packed up about 2 weeks ago ..and has yet to be replaced ,,
Having said that ..previous encouters with ally using the dremel haven't been that good ..
mini grindstones and wheels clog very rapidly ...and you dont have the same control as you do with hand files ...
In short ..a better job with hand files ..but much slower of course..

So ..not all SL3 mark 3s are created equal ..
The ally rims fit perfect in the modded SL3 without force ..so slightly different dimensions ..
Ok ...do I get any improvement ..
Well ..it ain't earthshattering but signal increased by 0.5db ...
but any gain is good ..
Was it it worth the physical effort ?
Perhaps not ..but I had to know..
lol

I have found the little sandpaper attachment best for ally, and must agree with the mini grindstones, this type below VS,

You put in a lot of work there VS. A little helps I suppose. At least you haven't degraded the signals, fortunately.

I found with my brass ring over the port, my dish declination needed to be adjusted very slightly higher for maximum signal, and I mean slightly - a dB or two difference on Newsnet. No doubt you have tried a bit of fine tuning since adding the ring section.
As we know, Ka reception, particularly with this LNB, is capricious at the best of times.

Been up a tree most of the day ..giving it a haircut ..
Nice to have the arc portion 48 to 54 west back ..
That aside I've just checked 19.2E again ..and the Newsroom feed appears to have moved ..
Blindscan now locking it at 18553 V...
Nice sinal level tho'
around 9.9db atm plus and minus 1db ...and that's with the weather cap on..
very much TOD and relatively clear skies here..

Coming in fairly well on the F15 at 8.6dB, some stuttering on audio.
The F15 is still grabbing it on its originally locked 18556V, so it isn't too bothered by it being a MHz or two out.

Can I just ask a couple of questions.
What turns these SUP 2400 on/off is it a 22Khz tone?
If so and if I'm understanding this both Ka ports on the LNB could be switchable from lower to upper band via the tone.
Is so why do we need to convert one of the SUP 2400 to be permanently on? My Alien 3 has swithable 22Khz tone so this would not be a problem.

Thanks

Scopus, the SUP-2400 is a baseband converter, down-converting the SL3's KA band into a usable spectrum for our receivers. The 22kHz doesn't change the KA band frequency.

Ahh I see, so the 22khz tone is not needed then, sorry for being a bit thick on this one, I saw it mentioned earlier on in the thread.

The 22khz tone selects either Left or Right Ka ports ..by being on or off ..

This will be my setup here..two wires from the ka ports of the LNB, modded SUP 2400 via diseqc switch port 1 to give me ka band A, then other port via un modded SUP 2400 with 22khz on via port 2 of diseqc switch to give me ka band b. Will that work?

Yes an unmodded SUP will give you part of Ka band B ...but then so will leaving out the unmodded SUP ..
It is not needed for Ka B at all..
and yes the 22khz tone will select either the the left port if on or the right port/lnb if off ..
SL3 viewed from the front..

OK V3 of the LNB came yesterday, literally fixed to the dish with the cap on in the last hour of daylight without any meter setup, did the mod on the SUP and went off to find the Ka stuff and have had success, I think when we get a dry day a bit of tweaking and experimenting will be done. So far though quite pleased
