Unfortunately the meter wont take the parameters of 11.495, so no dish alignment, hopefully William -1 has provided what I need so will test tomorrow all I have on the meter is a load of rotary frequencies.

This may be a bit of a crude way, but, if you can find Hispasat at 30W then go a tiny bit left and down I think, it may make it easier.

You can get the elevation settings from dishpointer.

May be crude, but exactly my experience also.

The "sweet spot" is very precise and hard to find (at least in my location). I attached my receiver (Technomate 5402 HD M2) and set it to the BBC TP, then watched the signal/quality bars. This was the only way to be sure I was looking at the correct satellite.

I am hoping he has the TM, so long as he can get near the dish with the receiver and a TV then he should have a fighting chance. Hopefully it should be easier where he is as the signal will be stronger.
I think I will put another dish up at our new place for the 27.5w, I much prefer the idea of a sat signal instead of internet access.

Edit. According to his signature he has a 6900 HD so that should have a decent set of signal bars. :)

I hate the idea of IPTV. If my big dish fails to receive the lost channels at 28.2E then I will probably buy another 1.2m dish and install my second Technomate for 27.5W at home. However, we are a totally Sky+ oriented household. We very rarely watch anything live other than the news, breakfast TV and "Wimbledon Men's Final" so will probably rely more on Sky Demand than 27.5W for our UK PSB content.

Next time we are over, I am going to try a smart dns in the router so we can use the catchup and on demand on the sky HD box and pick up the live PSB on the TM. Makes it a bit easier if we have people staying there, rather than having to have masses of instructions on how to use the internet to watch it.

You don't need to configure it in the router, you can put the params directly into the Sky HD box. Unless your ISP gives you a fixed IP address you will need to change your router to one that supports a service like www.noip.com

I was going to put it in the router as I have a PC linked up to the TV as well, the TV is a Smart TV too. We do have a dynamic IP so I need to do some homework on DNS. :)

I would imagine that will work. I have only configured it directly in my Sky boxes. You don't need to do any homework, just subscribe to Overplay SmartDNS (it doesn't cost very much). Apart from the very occasional "flaky" day is works exceptionally well and is much cheaper than a VPN service.

I was looking at SmartyDNS, $40, £25 a year. Seems OK.

I have changed my details, no longer have the TM 6900 because it was a non super so I don't think it would have worked. These days I tend to rely on Linux boxes , hence the need for frequencies as you say there are many ways to watch IPTV particularly through a Linux box so we don't miss anything. But I just want to try 27.5 West I like the challenge I have to mount a new dish quite high to clear a local hill in the UK I would have called it a mountain.
Thanks for your comments.

If you go back a few pages in this thread, a member called Kota has finally managed to get it to work on a VU Solo. It is quite difficult due to the scrambled PMT's :confused which boxes like the TM5402HD and DR F16 cope with on their own.

yes indeed. And it's a Vu+ Solo2. After plenty of sleepless nights finally got it sorted including sound on the HD channels which is really the hard bit to achieve ...

Having seen some of your posts, it seemed to be a bit of a challenge, one which you stuck at and won. :-applause

Hi all! I too have lost all the FTA goodness from Astra 2 and was wondering, I have a Vu+ Duo 2 and I know it is possible but a nightmare to get the BBC's etc... and I remembered I have an old Kaon 570 stashed away and was wondering if it could clear the 27.5w channels? I know it cleared BISS channels before but I'm not sure if it is suitable for 27.5w. I do not want to buy another receiver as the Vu+ Duo 2 is just 5 months old, the missus would kill me! : ) I want my BBC back!!! Argghhh!!!

You can use the Duo2 to get these at 27.5 west but you will have to use OpenPLI 4.0 image and Oscamymod there is a very detailed thread about this on the PLI forums

Give it a try - you have nothing to lose apart from some of your time. If its a few years old it might not handle the high 44100 symbol rate - many receivers topped out at around 30000 until a few years ago.

And dont be surprised if the BBC end up securing 27.5W properly now its going mainstream!

My location is Madeira, I'll give it a go on the Vu+ Duo 2, I'm a complete novice but I'll try. The Kaon is from 2005!! I too think the BBC will change the encryption pretty soon! Or maybe not! In the meantime we should take advantage of the 27.5w. Thanks all!!

Ah, Madeira: One of my favourite parts of the world. Been several times on RN service and privately. Preferred getting there by Warship as the Runway is a bit nerve-wracking !
