My old Pace box turns off by itself after about two hours.

No problem if watching the channel at the time because a warning box pops up on screen. But I lost some recordings because I was watching something else at the time.

Is this a standard feature of Ѕky software or is there a setting I can use to stop this happening.

Auto power off was enabled on all boxes on the last software update. You can turn it off in the menus somewhere.

It will turn off after about 4 hours of no button presses during the day or 2 hours at night.

Wow, that was quick response.

Explains why I've had the box years and not noticed it before.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Makes me wonder what the point of the feature is, if everyone's switching it off... :-rofl2

That said, what does a sky box do when it is "off"? Cos the tuner's still active and receiving data, the processor and memory is still active, so, why bother with an auto-shutoff feature when all it does is turn off the video-output and turn the green light to red? :confused

If you want to save energy, switch it off at the wall!!!

Exactly.

There is a risk of missing Firmware Updates, but if that is borne in mind, you can save around 30W of juice.

No "Low Power in Standby" mode for Sky Boxes yet - and as you surmise, the difference in consumption between On and Standby is negligible.

Flannel and fluff by Sky to make their Green Credentials look good.

They aren't.
