0.8°W, T1 + Nordic Beam, Reception in Ireland,
Hi Folks,
I'm looking for reception reports on the above in Ireland, Dish sizes, LNB,s, I'm in the North West.

Any other input is also welcome :)

I'm guessing that the nordic beam is out of the question with my Penta 85 but, T1 is marginal (judging by the lyngsat footprint maps). I was hoping I might get something from T1 with some tweaking or a better LNB.

_http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/thor5_t1.html

The Fracarro LNB is not locked into position on the LNB holder (there were no pins or mouldings on the LNB to lock it in place), so there is some room for horizontal movement in the directions shown in the attached image. I'm not sure if this has any effect on signal reception.

Setup:
Fracarro Penta 85 Dish,

LNB: Fracarro Single Universal LNB 0.5
Noise Figure 0.5dB
Gain 55dB

Tuner, DM-600S

Forget the Nordic beam on Thor 3, I DON'T get it here in the Midlands with a Penta 85cm either. However, I do get a strong signal on beam T1, 11.325h

Adjust the focal point by moving the LNb back and forth within it's holder to obtain the best signal possible. You won't notice too much happening. Known as F/D ratio :D

You could try replacing the LNb with a lower noise figure although whether these are true n/figures or not is another thing.

I thought as much as regards the nordic beam.

I'll give that a go, If it ever stops raining :) There has barely been a clear day since I installed the Penta back in early July. :(

In south wales i can receive thor 3 vertical transponder on a 90cm dish but the horizontal thor 3 transponders are a bit weaker and need a 1.2m dish

But any way all the best channels are on the new thor 5 satellite and only needs a small dish,

Checked just now a few vertical Tp's from Thor 3 @ 0.8ºW ..... seem to pull them in but no Horz. I only briefly checked a few earlier; obviously the Horz Tp's.

Hi compufunk,

80cm dish 0.3 LNB North east England, no Nordic channel clearing.
Just on the edge to pickup with a 15% sig Quality on
my Humax HDCI2000 STB.

Cf, look at your Channel List, have you 2 Seatellite positions
at 0.8w.
Some lists push both Digitv, Intelsat 10-02, (1w), and Telenor, Thor, (0.8w)
on one Sat position.
If your list has one Sat position for both Satellites, it could
be your lined up on (1w) and not (0.8w).
Give us you Signal Quality for Galaxie Sport (1w), I have 60%,
and you best Signal Quality for (0.8w) I have 100% on some Conax Channels.
My list has two Sat positions one for Thor, and one for Intelsat 10-02.

I would of thought 0.2º on an 80cm dish would make minimal OR no difference at all :D

Hi satelliteman,

Your right, it makes little or no differance with a good
strong signal, but when your trying to pickup the Nordic
signal every % counts.
I have a Sig quality on 1w galaxie Sport of 61% with a 80cm Dish
with 2 Sat positons, one for Thor, one for Intelsat.
With a Channel List that has both sat together, Galaxie Sport
registers, Sig Quality of 57%.
Its the same with the Nordic beem 2 Sats 15% Sig Quality.
1 Sat Nordic been 12%.
The Humax STBox picture brakes up at 16% Sig Quality.

Nice info BF but remember if using USALS to drive your dish to 1w, there will always be +/- 0.2º of inaccuracy when it stops:-rofl2

same here up north with a 90cm andrews dish, plenty to watch with the diablo :)

only way you would better the signal is to change to a 1.2m dish which would give more signal

Thanks for the input guys :) I have no intention of upgrading the dish, especially since this would also mean a replacement motor.

I'll report back if I get any improvement by tweaking things a bit.

I've noticed that I sometimes get a "Moving Dish" message on screen when changing between channels on the same sat. Any idea why this is?

I'm not sure what receiver your using but I get that if I have nudged E or W a fraction and then when I change to a channel on a different Tp, the motor goes back to default position :)
