Hi im buying a viasat subscription and was advised to buy a 1.2m dish and a twin lnb. But i also wanted to get another box to use the dish with a motor to get english freesat channels and al jazeera. What exactly will i need?
 
Bit of a conflict here - a 1.2m Dish is generally accepted to be too large (excessive wind loading) and too heavy (If Steel, not Ali) for a bog standard DiSEqC Motor, which I suspect is what you had in mind.

If motorising, then a 36v system using an Actuator would be best ................ but more expensive.

Many of us keep a separate dish for Sky/Freesat/28E FTA - as you already have one, I recommend keeping it.
 
I was told that the 1.2 metre was big enough to get the viasat thats why i was thinking motorise it. Would you be able to receive al jazeera on a standard sky minidish if it was motored though?

No.

The minidish is best dedicated to 28E, as stated.

In any event, can you expand upon "Al Jazeera": They do a fair range of stuff from News to Documentary to Sport and on various Satellites. But again, I am` assuming you want Sports. If so, you need BIG dish for that.
 
yes im meaning sport for the football and basketball although i thought it was broadcast on easily achievable satellites aswell as the nilesat 7? What do you reccomend i do?

are 26 and 13 no good?
 
A 1.2m can be motorised using a V-box and a 36v actuator together with a 1.2m dish with polar mount. Gibertini would be a dish and polar mount example.

You need to be more specific re al jazeera. Al jazeera English can be got on 28E for example.

You should get 26E badr 4 on a 1.2m, but probably not Nilesat.

I mean the al jazeera sport card thats knocking about with the 10 channels. Is there a certain one which has english on it?
How much are we talking (roughly) for all that?
Im planning on using the paired receiver for the viasat then another form of box probably a tm to turn the motor/actuator to 28.2e and other fta channels (mainly just for sport and english programming)
 
I just bought all the bits i need to motorize a 1.2 channel master and including a tm800 total price was £712 at trade price.

Although a 1.2 dish is recommended for viasat I have around 15 pubs on eather 1m or 1.1 meter triax dish's motorized with normal motor picking up the viasat channels. Can be a bit hit and miss in bad weather though
 
I'm watching the Asia Cup on Hotbird at the minute. This is using a minidish.

There is an Al Jazeera sports package on Hotbird with about 10 channels. Only a small dish neeed.
 
so what would you say is the best way to go? 1.2m with an actuator or a fixed 1.2 with an extra dish aswell and motor that?
