So after much ca-fuffle I've chosen the 1.8m Raven to install to replace one of my existing dishes.. It'll be a slow install over many months, yet to source & buy the dish even! But the first part has arrived!

Lots and lots of concrete for a good base.

Shall add more photos as it comes together.

In this first photo, my existing dishes, 1m fixed on 22W, 1.2m motorised above it, 1.3m motorised to the left. The motorised dishes get 30W - 45E quite easily, could go further west if I tried.

New dish will probably be going infront of the 1.2m, It'll probably get in the way of it even with the 1.2m up high, so it's possible Ill be removing the two dishes on the right to make room, We shall see.

Stand wise, Im going for a tripod type stand on screw bolts embedded into a concrete slab I'll lay. I like the idea of being able to adjust the level of the stand, vs a pole sunk in concrete which I've done before with the 1.2.

Great looking forward to watching your progress, mine will be going a little higher about 18ft to the top of the dish, I've managed to get a pole today just got to go and take it down and cut it to size.

Great progress ..but like Martin ...I would have mounted higher up ..
That hedge looks like it will prevent a good deal of westward Dxing.

The dishes in the photo are on 24.5w and 22w and I do have some room closer to the camera, which is ideally where it will go. I just have to remember leave room, as it's in my drive way, need to get in. :) So I think I can possibly get 45w.

Im going to go out tomorrow with a 1m dish on a tripod I have in the garage and just move it about and find the right spot.

Old photo here: The fern in the middle of shot is gone, not that it was in the way anyway, 7 & 10 east are round about there and get them fine.

Regarding what I'm after, it's going to be used to get certain feeds for a work project that are usually on 4.8e, 7e, 10e and the 1.3m is a bit small at times, especially in our weather. But as it's in my garden, I have the bonus of using it in my spare time for some feed hunting. :)

Yes I agree with VS, but at the end of the day its your choice, my original place for my install would have got me 61W/57E,

My new location I am not sure what I will be able to pick up but the dish will have a clear line from 75W/72.1E, I like chasing fringe so we will have to see.

I know if I would have put it at the lower location I would have been moving it, I will only need to position it once , I would advise you to have a good think about it:)

Went out with an iphone and got these holding it out infront of my chest, 50e/45w seems to be the limit with some further tree trimming to do on the west.

The sats needed for my work are well within that, so thumbs up there, hopefully still enough Ku/C band fun for me on the weekends ;)

Dish will go where the plastic work bench is I think.

Ill see about poles, I'd love it as high as the 1.2m but for the sake of a few extra satellites, I dont know. Shall think on that. The 1.2m pole is 3 meters, can't imagine 5 meters Martin :-ohmy Another option is taking down the hedge on the left to the same height as the right.

I am quite lucky I guess, it will also be braced from my house with adjusting bars for fine tuning and also acting as stabilisers,

My main issue has been a polar mount. the one for a 1.8 is only for a 3inch pole the 2.4 is 4 inch, I am in the process of making my own to fit a 4.5 inch pole, I think the 3 inch is not adequate.

Well this morning I took my tripod 1 meter dish for a walk and pretty much confirmed the location where the dishes are can only see 45 West, 50 East max limits wether up on a 3 meter pole or on a ground stand, just due to hedges and houses up on a hill blocking the horizon. Picked this spot of the garden specifically because no neighbours windows overlook it and you can't see it from the private road.

This does make it easier for me to install this beast, which is an off the shelf ground stand. So the hole digging has begun, aiming to have the concrete in this evening with a little help from some friends.

Nothing much past 45 west anyway I think some C band stuff not sure.

45w to 50east is still a big spread of satellites you can look at with the dish once installed.

Nice platform Mapperuo! After it hardens you will drill holes to attach stand?

Absolutely, Stand comes with adjustable feet which was part of my decision for going stand vs pole in concrete. Allows for adjustments incase its not 100% level.

Noticed my neigbhour has cut the hedge down to 1 meter tall, was easily 3.. So I suspect they'll be able to see any dishes now :( On the slim chance they realise its bigger than allowed and complain, does me putting up a 2 meter fence solve the issue - as in, they cannot then see it?

I dont expect them to complain and Im sure the hedge cutting is just to allow more light into their garden, but I'd like to know where I stand if they did complain.
