Hi everyone,


I have been following the interesting posts on dish enlargement etc, I have assembled everything for a 1.8 dish and have set the main angle at my latitude of 54 what angle do I set the dish angle I am pointing at 5W. Thanks.
 
Is it an offset dish? I don't think the dish angle matters that much as long as you get the strongest signal you can from 5W. Use the Algerian beam to align on as it's much weaker than the European one.
 
What mount and dish is it out of interest?
 
Yes it is an offset dish. I spent some time on 5W adjusting the dish tilt and not hitting other satellites then I had a good look at my neighbors S,y dish which seemed to be nearly vertical so I went to 28 E and got my dish about the same and now can get better reception on 28E and 19E but still have over the weekends to get the others.

If it's a polarmount, you need to set the elevation angle to 90 degrees less your latitude, so 36 degrees. Then set up on 5W, or your nearest due South satellite.
 
Set the polar mount elevation with one of them angle finders to get it accurate as possible.
 
If you've got a Android phone look for a small app called Mast Tuner, it's a digital inclinometer that uses the accelerometer for better accuracy than most of the spirit level apps you can get, it's free too. Used it to set up my PF, both ground post and dish elevation

Yes I have done that but finding what angle to set the dish at was a problem for me.

Maybe some pictures of the mount and current settings would be of some help.

Just an ordinary c/m polar mount have set the main angle as rolfw,s instructions but will later check and alter the back frame if needed as so


54 latitude + 22.6 + 7.8 = 84.4
 
Right, the C/M's polar mount elevation (the long threaded screw) has to be set to your latitude - same with declination at the top of the mount. Make sure the dish is on sat on the polar mount at its highest level and not turned in either direction. Then move the whole assembly around the pole until you find 5W. Then adjust declination screw only until you get the best signal. The other satellites should more or less fall into place.

The transpoder you have found is receiveable with smaller dishes at your location.

You need to check the accuracy of the pointing by reducing the size slightly (wet towel over part of the reflector until you lose signal, then check/adjust the alignment to regain it.
 
I only set up my 1.2 channel master dish & cm polar mount a few weeks ago.
I set my lat settings on the long jack screw to my location of 53.5 and set it up on 5w using the declination screw to come down on top of the arc.
Once io got that i moved to 39e, got very low signal quality, but lowered the declination till i got a bit more.

After that its a combination of adjusting the declination and moving the whole dish/mount that little bit east/west.

Using the declination and moving the dish/mount are the key to alligning 100%.

I used no other tools to help allign, apart from a portable tv and technomate box outside and get everything as good as can be got.

It takes time to allign, but be patient and dont give up, you will get it.

I have had another go and on 5W one of the French stations comes in at 84% but when the weather picks up I will do as you say and take the receiver to the dish with a tv and then do adjustments.
