I return from holiday to my Algarve shack to no BBC1 England, no BBC2 England & no Five. First there was signal strength but a blank screen, now there is no signal strength.
So I check Lyngsat for a change of 'venue'....zilch. Then I look on the forums, no mention.
Everything else seems OK at my end, so does anyone know what is going on please?

In some areas 10773H is getting nailed by the recently activated 10770H on Badr 5 at 26E.

So us non licence fee paying reprobates will soon be left with CBS Action only? - I'm so pleased Amazon stuck £20 on the Foxsat HDR recently & I reacted in my usual (sod 'em) way.
Oh well, there is always Max Keiser twice a week on Russia Today .......... & a good book; & radio 3; & Swiss Jazz; & my Italian will improve.

Would these frequencies on Badr have been set up deliberately?

Good grief no - the frequencies will have been approved by international agreement years ago at the ITU.

Remember the 28E frequencies are designed to be received in the UK & immediate area only. The fact that some fringe reception is possible is a happy accident. If they get blatted by an adjacent satellite well its just tough luck.

Many expats are going to get some nasty shocks when Astra 2E to 2G start going into service and they start losing many other channels.

Yes we know where they are transmitted from ........... the problem is that in some fringe areas they are no longer receivable or are degraded compared to even a few weeks ago.

Any proper solution is going to mean bigger dish, a 2.2/2.4m will be able to cope with a sub 3 degree spacing.

Hmm, why don't 10817 & 10775 show on Lyngsat's 28.2 listings?

At least when I look they don't.

They're only nominal .... each TP is 20MHz or so wide and the centre frequency reported by any given receiver is often a couple of MHz out.

So I think he means 10818 (for 10817) and 10773 (for 10775) :)

Hedge, first thing to try before anything else is take some skew out of it. Twist the LNB anticlockwise a bit so the cable comes out somewhere between 6 and 7 ºclock. This will take some of the potency out of the Badr5 signal but barely affect the power of 2D.
