If they broadcast in 1080(x) you will lose something.
Same if you have a BluRay player and put in a disc with a 1080(x) output.
Whether you notice it is another matter.

An HD Ready tv will show till 1080i and HD Channels only broadcast 1080i so you wont lose any picture quality

On a a practical note. If I turn the output down from 1080i to 720p on my Foxsat HDR I can see the difference on my Full HD TV. As CH says, it's a personal thing if you can see the difference.
