10E - W1 -> W2A migration starts this evening

From the APTN website:

Eutelsat is replacing W1 with W2A at the 10 degrees East orbital position.

The switchover from W1 to W2A will occur at approximately 2310 GMT on the 18 May 2009.

Eutelsat have prioritised the F4 transponder to minimise the disruption to AP distribution services. Eutelsat advise the interruption should be in the order of one minute or less according to previous transfers.

All downlink and uplink details remain the same, so no adjustments should be required.


I never have much luck with 10E, but Id be interested in comments on the the before and after reception from any members who watch the switch over
 
hmm I'll check this as i can get a few feeds on my dish here so will like to see what signal level is like

whats going to 7east then if w2a is moving 3 degrees east ?

edit well currently getting up4 and ihlas news feeds with 75% signal strength on my vantage which is good for the size of dish and it is overcast showery weather

Eutelsat W3A will be joined by W3C in 2010. Until then shes on her own unless Eutelsat slot on of the older birds into place temporarily.
 
If its tp F4 moving first thats the the scrambled one on 12631V 8888 2/3 DVB-S2 scrambled in BetaTechnik.

just checked and i cant see any difference in signal levels here, all channels must have been transferred as i checked some what i had in receiver up4, ihlas and mgm
 
The changover is at 2310 GMT which is 0010 BST.

Yes from a customer point of view that is exactly the way it should be transparent to the end user, an enthusiast may however find subtle differences in signal strength/quality especially noticeable in fringe areas, on th other hand they may not :cool:

With W2A’s entry into service Eutelsat has also introduced a new mission comprising 10 C-band transponders. Centred over the African continent, the C-band footprint takes in large parts of the Middle East and central Asia to the East and stretches across to Latin America in the West. This capacity has enabled Eutelsat to immediately initiate new multi-year contracts with clients that notably include France Telecom for long-distance services between Europe and Africa, and with LR Group which has contracted for three 72 MHz transponders for enterprise communications and for connecting fixed and mobile telephony networks in Angola.

Following this redeployment Eutelsat’s W1 satellite will be repositioned to 4 degrees East in early June where it will operate under the name Eurobird™ 4A.

This is going to be one interesting satellite slot in a few months time once shes fully powered up.

S-band, C-band that coveres Europe, lots of new Ku band capacity. Looks like Im going to have to rig up another dish :-rofl2
 
Im just picking up one new transponder and one service from that TP on an auto scan, a subsequent blind scan just confused things by picking up a lot of stuff from Eurobird 9E.

I missed this thread yesterday so didnt get a chance to make a proper comparison, so I cant be sure whether this new transponder was related to the move or not, but it wasn't there when I last scanned about 2 weeks ago.

From flysat / lyngsat, it looks like having a slightly tighter footprint for the North UK anyhow.
 
still getting it on my 90cm andrews but up4 is now weaker tp 10970v 4167 5/6
 
Ive just finished reinstalling my new 9/10E dish - and Ive got a huge improvement in reception!

Not bad for a mega scruffy 2nd hand 80 cm dish. Its covered in green algae, and is one of the bent ones I straightened out a few years ago!

The garden looks more and more like an SES control centre :-rofl2
