11007V on 28E

According to TBS Blindscan on my TBS 5925 there is a transponder at 28E that uses 16APSK. Crazyscan shows a spike at this frequency (11007 V), but it is not as strong as the main channels. Blindscan from Crazyscan just shows a diffuse circle - so is my TBS card on the blink? I've checked online and the site I looked at had nothing about 11007V. Can somebody check as I only have a badly aligned Sky zone1 dish to use for 28E...

Nothing wrong with your USB Tuner, am a bit puzzled at the cost of the tuner just to be scanning 28.2e though?
 
Hi remlap - thanks for the quick response. Yes it would be overkill just for 28E (and no way of watching Sky channels on it either!) However the card was watching 13E a couple of weeks back and was looking at the BBC high-symbol-rate backup feed before that. The western sky is easy for me to look at, the eastern sky past 20E is very difficult due to trees. After buying a tuner that couldn't even do DVB-S2 I've now gone the other way and got a tuner that can do a bit more than average.

The problem I have is that the card struggles to lock onto this signal. I am lucky to get one lock per minute. Do you get a 16 dot picture in Crazyscan?

Does anybody know what this signal does / is for?
 
You won't keep lock because its ACM which means it's changing modulation.

That's only partly correct cos with ACM the modulation is constantly changing due to feedback from the earth stations. Just check -> "update modulation info"

Does anybody know what this signal does / is for?
not really. It's a continuous data stream without transport stream encapsulation. The pci-e card 6926 you can record this stream with the tbs-tsreorder. Later you can examine the recording with any tool or browser. I have now the usb version 5925 which apparently can't record non-ts. But I can remember that the content was partly readable (can't rember 11008V) ;)
 
Hi BlindFaith - thanks for the info. So as there is no MPEG TS there's nothing to see :-(
But as I'm still learning about all things satellite can I ask a few questions? (Especially as this website won't let you search for 3-letter items like "ACM")
If it changes modulation am I right in thinking it goes from 16APSK to 32APSK or QPSK?
I take it the changes are entirely random and not just following a pattern? If somebody had a dual tuner then they could have the 2nd tuner on "stand-by" waiting with the next modulation setting.
Are there any unecrypted ACM feeds out there with a MPEG TS? (ie: something to watch)

The exact information can be found the standard EN 302 307 from ETSI.

btw. there's a 2nd ACM transponder on 28.2E at 11186V
 
I had this ACM feed on 8W 12529H a few months ago. Of course you had to catch it when the phase shift was stabilised at 16APSK to resolve the video.

Well, in this case I think that the BBHEADER was wrong and misleading. It had to be transport and not continuous. ACM/VCM is signaled by the same bit. It doesn't mean that the modulation has to change. The modulation checkbox is missing in your screen shot ?
 
Yes, that was the earlier version of Crazyscan without the extra enhancements (PLS etc)
 
BlindFaith - that DVBS2 theory link was really good. Thank you very much! I shall let some of the information sink in and try and read it again later...

But from those powerpoint slides I now know that ACM can work because DVB-S2 transmits the modulation used in the "rugged" header of each frame.
From the manufacturer's website (TBS) I know my card can support ACM/VCM as well as CCM. So in theory shouldn't my card be able to read the header and adapt modulation as required?

I have been using the TBS Blindscan program this afternoon to try and catch what modulations are used. So far I've seen "8PSK 3/4", "16 APSK 4/5", "16 APSK 3/4", "QPSK 1/2" and an odd one "FE_SAT_DUMMY_PLF" (whatever that means!)

I am using the USB variant TBS 5925 instead of the more common TBS 6925 and some of CrazyCat's posts suggest that the USB bridge will not pass all streams. I was hoping that the functionality between PCIe and USB variants would be the same.

I have updated Crazyscan to v1.0.1.57 (website suggested v58 is out, but the download I got still shows v57). I have even installed some "trial" drivers offered on the TBS forum so I am now at v1.0.1.6 dated October 2012. Crazyscan/Blindscan seems inconsistent in greying out the lower half of the Blindscan window. Half the time I cannot tick the "update modulation" tickbox. Despite all of this I cannot record any data from this transponder.

I am aware this topic is becoming more of a TBS 5925/6925 topic than one about 28E - ao I apologise!
 
Yes, you had a screengrab up at the time in the section the link points to. Unfortunately we lost a lot of grabs during the forum changeover; I had to root around in my Recycle bin to find my grabs and post them there today!

I think that Top Secret headline and my pics were in a review of newspapers by the Italian channel Sky TG24 - I have another grab with that logo on it.
 
Yeah I know, just making a mention of it, had a scan today and sadly it's gone. Would of been interesting if update modulation was implemented then.
