In an "either/or" situation what are the advantages and disadvantages of using a 1224 motor compared to a polar mount and actuator?

Polar/actuator mount sturdier for dishes > 1.1M.

H/H will usually have a greater arc spread though.

The 1224 will make a hole in your pocket compared to a jack/polar though :-rofl2

Im a big fan of polar mount`s and actuators, and dislike diseq motor`s.
But saying that I've always had big dish`s:)

I do prefer the 1224, as its Horizon to horizon! And it will hold a dish up to 1.8m (light weight like the precision 1.8m)

Its very versatile, it can be adapted to fit almost all dish types.

Not if its bought from Germany Satellite man;)

A 'good' polar mount is important - there are many designs and making sure you choose a good one- solid and well made... well designed pivot joints and good arc by default.

Polar mounts / actuators are far stronger and can handle 3m+ dishes and last a lot longer on smaller dishes and do better in strong winds....

but

they suffer with limitations on the arc they can get- you have to do a lot more work to get them to see a 'big' arc- depending on the design of the polar mount & actuator you use.

The side the actuator is on is usually no problem but the other side can be a bit limiting depending on the design.

H-H motors have no problem giving a big arc 'out if the box'.

actuators might be noisier too..

You can customise polar mounts / actuators far more than a H-H motor though...

I prefer polar mounts but they are not the best design 100% ...

...swings and rounabouts..

The 1224 is ridiculously quiet.:)

This one goes up and down as well as left and right.

Always wanted one but a bit pricey!

i wondered why no one had complained about any noise.

i would have prefered the polar mount for my channel master dish as the 1224 looks a bit big for the small dish i have on it

i got my 1224 for 115 euro/ 85 back last year but will be expensive now with exchange rates

no problem with winds here as mine is holding up very well.

if you can get the polar mount and heavy duty actuator for cheap then switch it over
