wow an era is over.. i was in high school back then and I was watching morning news on that NTSC channel.
i was dx ing last month and parked on 15W for two days. after so many years it was so emotional to see morning news from US on dad4. (12585 H was not there when i performed a scan)
signal quality is not great on 12588 but better than nothing. Good to know that we still have that DAD4 and DAD 5.

Yes, that's the one but isn't there another MSNBC feed (according to King of Sat) or is it the old one?

yes - old (on KingOfSat more old info) , try FlySat or edit on SatBeams
 
A few weeks ago I noticed msnbc would slightly glitch every few seconds - like the bitrate was momentarily dropping. Was like that for at least a couple weeks before some very dangerous trees got in the way and I lost signal. Did wonder at the time if it looked a bit forgotten about, hopefully it'll come back.

This feed was turned off as it isn't used anymore. It used to be for the Afghan war, then it was repurposed for MSNBC International rebroadcasts by providers in Africa and in South America (same channel on the US beam). This is now distributed via fibre in HD to providers.

The DAD feeds are again remains from the war but they're mostly used for reporters in Europe. CNBC is still left on from Davos and NBC Newsfeed on DAD4 is from the reporting of Corona virus for the today show and NBC Nightly News.
 
Now that Comcast owns Sky and NBCUniversal, one might hope MSNBC will turn up on Sky some day.

Doubt it. No interest on this side of the pond for the mainstream
 
With a US election on the way there must be some interest. If it's anything like the last US election there'll be non stop coverage on the BBC & Sky for months.
When you said it was for the Afghan war do you mean it was a reverse feed for nbc crew in Afghanistan, a feed for other broadcasters to take coverage from or something else?

It was used for a getting live video back to the US (on the US beam of Telstar 12) and for live video to reporters on the ground. Teleprompter feeds etc are common to show up on the dads if reporters are in Europe.
There is a book called Operation Iraqi Freedom: The Inside Story by the NBC News crew that has diagrams and pictures of them using the feeds and explains how they did it.
NBC News also did a segment almost ten years ago on Telstar where they shown off the US beam
I recorded it from the DADs on Telstar 12 and uploaded it to youtube back then here:

Never mind it's back, signal is weak though.

Not checked for a while but for at least the past 2 days MSNBC has been on DAD 5-FT-12.
