180cm Satellite Dish - Naples

My Satellite Setup
Sky satellite with an 80cm dish
computer installed with Alice broadband
My Location
Italy - just north of Naples
Does anyone know where I can buy a 180cm Satellite dish. I live just North of Naples in Italy. I have a 80cm dish at present but only get a limited amount of Sky channels. I have been told I need a 180cm dish because of where I live. The firm that insatlled the TV is telling me they do not know where to get such a large dish!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you are wanting the BBC ITV & C4 channels you are going to have to go MUCH bigger than a tiddly 1.8m!

a 1.8 meter dish will not pick up the free view from the uk.
a 4 meter will not do it eather.
we mounted a 4 meter dish here in pinetamare and it didn't work.
bbc 1 bbc 2 and itv 2,3 etc will not work.
if you are on 13 east with alice sat then a 80 cm is all you need.
what are you trying to receive???
a italian sky box on 13 degrees is not compatible with sky uk on 28 degrees.

but if you pick up the base paper the panorama and look on the last page you will see my advert. and ralph magno the satellite man.

Thank you for the reply. I am not trying to get freeview from the UK. We have an active Sky UK box. The firm that insatlled the tv here in Italy, pointed the 80cm dish - 140degrees, the same way as all the Italian dishes. We can get some Sky channels but not the main ones such as BBC1,2,3 and 4 and the ITV channels. If we need a 1.2meter dish and point it at the Astra 2D satellite on 28.2 degrees will we get the rest of the channels that are missing???? We have spoken to a Sky engineer in the UK and he is sure we will. The next question is where can I get a 1.2meter dish please??? We live near Cassino just Norht of Naples.

Mike you dont seem to understand. If you want the BBC & ITV channels you are going to have to go much much bigger than 1.8m - probably nearer 5 or 6m!!

The BBC & ITV channels are carried on a spotbeam on the Astra 2D satellite & you are in a very very poor signal strength area for that particular satellite.

Basicsally forget the Astra 2D channels there unless you have the room & the money for an insanely big dish.

If you have contacts in the UK you might want to investigate a slingbox instead
 
Absolutely - the man on the spot (ralphmagno) clearly confirms that even a 4 meter dish won't help you with this.

Your UK contact is, sadly, misinformed and mistaken.

Yes, I know. I But I think he may be referring to everything "on Sky" other than the 2D Channels. See the first few lines of the same Post where he confirms beyond doubt what we've been saying.

Also, umpteen other Forums and Sites relating peoples experiences have a common thread: "No chance"

Very sorry.

We're spending time in Puglia (amongst other regions) next Summer and are looking forward to not having UK TV!

There are 4 co-located satellites at 28E (the UK satellite slot) utilising 8 seperate transmission beams.

The Astra 2D beam is a uk spotbeam that spreads out over north western Europe to some degree but is known to be very very poor in southern Italy.

The 1.2m dish will give you the majority of the other channels - mostly the sky pay channels.

If you want the Astra 2D channels forget it - we are guessing 5-6m but even that might not be big enough there!

we have been doing this for 20 years here in this area.
if you have a sky uk box and new active white card then you will pick up
almost every channel sky uk has to offer.
a sky italia box will not work on sky uk at all.
a 80 cm dish will not work with sky uk.
the italians do not deal with sky uk they have sky italia.

on the sky uk you will not pick up the following.
bbc1 bbc2 itv 2,3 4 disney or anything that is on astra 2 d located at 28 degrees east.
we have a 4 meter dish here and it never worked.
i have fitted many british families who brought their dishes here from the uk and their systems are working like a champ.
i can not post my number here nor give you a price quote.
if you are attached to the base the base paper is free.
i have a small ad that goes in every other week.
there are 3 sky platformes now in eurpoe
sky germany,sky uk and sky italia none of the boxes will work with anyone's system.
if you are with sky italia you are stuck for a year.
if you cancell you have to pay the hole year.
if you pcs and did not send them a letter in italian 2 months before the year is up they renew you and you are in the usa and will debit the hole year month afrer month.:eek:
oner man had to cancell his credit card.
not a good system.
i can answer all your questions .
to have a 1.8 meter dish and hope for the freeview or something on astra 2 d is expencive and they will not take the dish back once installed.
there is plenty of american tv on sky uk and its months ahead of italy for sure

Once again thank you for a very detailed reply. I am not sure how to get hold of a base paper, any ideas please. Just to confirm, we are not interested in freeview, have an active uk box with a new white card and just want to be able at to get the missing channels, ie BBC123, ITV etc. We do get a lot of sky channels even though the 80cm dish is pointing 140degrees like all the italian dishes.

By Freeview, he means Free To Air. I'm not sure that ralph is familiar with our UK use of Freeview as a collective term for Digital Terrestrial :)

Free To Air from 2D (ie those Channels you really want) is not possible.

That's it: You're stuck with whatever you can get from 2A, 2B and Eurobird 1.
