If you buy something at £4.99, pay with £5 and the cashier doesn't give you the penny back, what do you do?:confused:

Definitely wait for the change! (I have Yorkshire ancestors) The idea of pricing items at 1p less than a round figure was to make sure the assistant actually went to the till and didn't trouser the money. Not that common nowadays with barcodes and scanning etc. If you added up all the odd 1p's over a week it could make a tidy sum. (or not if they were actually all 1p coins)

My wife collects all the copper coins and 5p pieces that are left at the end of the day (even out of my pockets if possible). So far we have £82 saved in a post office account since December 2008 for our Grand Tour holiday this year.

Actually, the sort of holiday I enjoy, that will provide food, drink and accomodation for three days. Fuel and cross channel stuff of course cost more, as does the passport renewal and bike MOT/tax and insurance, but even so, collecting coins that would otherwise drop through the hole in the pocket is something to be encouraged.
 
Yes, it is well worth it if you can spend it somewhere where the sun isn't a figment of the imagination. Even Torquay would do.

Say you earn a reasonable amount, for example £20 per hour, 1p is worth 1.8 seconds of your time. If the situation is going to take longer than that to pursue it is not economical viable and is actually costing you money.
