John,

Do you know the reason why the Precision antenna are mounted with the single strut in the "northern hemisphere"? I have assumed it was for a heavy LNB arrangement as the load bearing downwards is better supported by two struts rather than a single one?

Interestingly, the Precision polar mount for a 1.5m dish mounts the dish with the single strut in the "southern hemisphere". Presumably they were thinking a 1.5m dish would not be used with any heavily laden LNB arrangements
Rgds

Regardless of where the struts bolt onto in a flat plane, as long as there are more than two of them, the loading on the base will be equally distributed even at the minimum 12o degree spacing. I would have suggested putting the struts onto the outer rim so the reflector is not affected, however this would increase the shadow percentage.

Going back to your install, top class stuff so far, this is a corker of a topic as is "blades" 2.4m topic.

Short answer- Err No, haven't got a clue mate.
The reason i am putting the top strut vertical is because at some stage i will fit an Invert Ka/Ku lnbf directly underneath the barrel ..... couldn't do that if the strut dropped vertical.

Exactly. Iv,e a bit of a hang up re: shadowing and that's another reason why i went for flat bar support struts. In reality the performance gain is probably a drop in the ocean but it makes me feel better.

If you really were concerned, you would have fabricated them to bolt straight through the reinforcing ring.......

Here you are Rimants, the strut to eye bolt shown might not be the final method used for fixture

Yes, M6 is more than enough. Is there is some inserted in the eye to make it ~6mm or it stays like that?

Everything is M8 Rimants, the reflector support arm pinch hole -(Elite's words)- is for 8mm bolt, the eye hole is 9mm so ive used M8 to fix ali strut to the eye bolt.
So as to get the project under way iv'e used some anodised eye bolts that were to hand, i am hoping to change those to A4 stainless for the final item. everything else is A4.
The support arms at both ends could end up as in the sketch perhaps.

M8 is even better, means sturdier.
To eliminate any possible play between 9mm eye hole and 8mm bolt, head like thisScreenHunter_214 Mar. 04 11.04.jpg can be used.

Just about ready for paint now on the 2.2 mtr Elite.
Aiming point bar runs down the inside bottom of the barrel & is genuine as shown after hours of careful construction & not photo-shopped lol.
"Crush" method shown to show reduction required from arm to barrel finger.
Nice logo sent from Elite Antennas to apply to finished reflector.

... final mock-up pics, time to take the barrel out of the holder and coat the arms with paint first as a test before moving onto the dish. Air temperature around the dish is a barmy 14deg so should be ok to go.

John,

It looks like you have had the AV-Comm barrel turned externally to give a cylindrical shape for the clamp? They are a bit uneven after the casting process. Its a top class feed arrangement, very robust, well done.

Two reasons really MB, one as you say, and the other was so that it fitted over the circular collar that was in the scrap box. It was a tad too tight otherwise.
That Cband lnb shown on the pic won't be on the final cut, it will either be the Norsat that's on it's way or the Zinwell and the skew / polarity servo will be grafted on the back of the barrel as well.
Coming on nicely now, will be time to dismantle the 1.8 very soon.
