I want to know can I get 28.2e Ku & 9e Ka on one dish, I am guessing it is possible, using the appropriate lnbs, and if so, which receiver, using DiSEqc switching, would do the job, it has to be HD too. And what size of dish would be adequate to do the job efficiently? It rains a lot here!
And distribution...the Ka will be one band one polarity.
Tall order or possible? :confused:
 
At the moment you cant as theres no Ka output at 9E :D You will have to wait until KaSat slots at 9E later in the year.

At the moment Ka band is a bit specialised and few hobbyists are trying it, if you are wanting the RTE channels when they launch you may want to wait until the bird launches and see what RTE suggest in the way of lnb's & receivers

I guarantee there will be plenty of info on the forum about the RTE Ka band reception once things get going - there will be a lot of interest in getting those signals!

Judging by the info on the Ka spot beams, then getting RTE reception will be nigh on impossible outside Ireland, particularly in the south of England, as an identical spot as the Irish beam, but French, will slightly overlap that area, so any attempts to get the Irish frequencies will get you French tv instead.
Seems to me that in the future all new satellites might go this way and kill, forever, the reception of foreign providers-scary.

Anyway I was just curious about the technical posibilities of using just one dish, and receiver options. It pays to keep ahead if possible.
 
I know about the Ka spots, and my prediction is they will make getting 7W look like a picnic in comparison in much of mainland UK :D

However there will still be great interest in possible reception of the RTE channels once Ka-Sat goes live especially in the western areas.

BTW - craft with multiple spot beams will become increasingly common in future years - we know the new Astra 2's are all equipped for it & Astra 2B already uses this technology with its Nigerian payload.
 
When the satellite goes live and when i get a ka band lnb,would i stand any change of picking up a signal on a 2.4m dish from Swansea.?
 
We just dont know at the moment. Ka band on multiple spots (and KaSat has 80+) is a new concept in Europe.

However the further west you are the more favourable your location will be.
 
Can anyone tell me, would this work?:
Two positions 28.2e and 9e either on one dish or two,
Quattro lnb for 28.2e single Ka lnb for 9e.
Feed into a two position multiswitch, ie 9 in, the Ka only using the appropriate port of the four available, being only one quadrant.
One cable to each room, using receivers with DiSeqC to switch between positions.
This sounds too simple to be true, but it is the best I can come up with, or the neatest.
Any comments, or improvements, or simpler ideas that I have overlooked, will be most welcome
There are parts of this county, indeed country, that may rely entirely on satellite come the analogue switch off!
