28.5 eutelsat 28.2 Astra 2 D Technisat

I am a little confused. I understand the EPG for Freesat is broadcast on 28.5 Eutelsat but the channels are broadcast 2d Astra 28.2. My Technisat freesat decoder keeps defaulting (in Freesat Mode) to 28.5 Eutelsat but in open mode picks up both satellites. Am I correct in my assumption above, and will the default to 28.5 prevent me picking up Freesat broadcasts from 28.2 OR (more likely) do I not understand this at all?

At your location you cannot get Astra 2D.

All you get is the EPG from Eurobird and those of the Freesat Channels that are not on 2D.

Unfortunately, BBC, ITV and most of the other tasty channels are on the Satellite you simply cannot get - 2D!

For those in the UK, all four Satellites at the 28.2/28.5E position are seen as "co-located" and there is no problem.

At your location, you can only get Astra 2A, 2B and Eurobird as 2D has a narrow "footprint" which doesn't reach you.

The Free To Air Channels are in light blue. You can get none of those assigned to 2D.

Of those Free To Air Channels that you are technically capable of receiving, you will get more in non-Freesat mode but only with Now & Next EPG Data.

This is because Freesat is a sub-set of Free To Air Channels confined to those who have chosen to pay the fee for a Freesat EPG slot (ie The Channel Number and 7 day Programme Guide you see in Freesat Mode).

A good example of a notable omission is Sky News.

You should be able to get that, as it is not on 2D, but it is only available in non-Freesat mode as BSkyB have not paid a fee to the Freesat consortium for a Freesat EPG slot.
