Lol, maybe he thought you were remarking on his post... Unless he's a doom monger.

Mind you I think it is possible for the sun to send out a massive burst of radiation enough to ionise the atmosphere at any time, which would suck....

Perhaps in the future an array of nuclear powered field generators could be placed to deflect at much as possible.

After doing some work on three of my installations this evening i have come to believe the problem we have been experiencing on 2D lately has nothing to do with humidity or atmospheric activity....and it is a deffinately NOT a power reduction on 2D...
I fixed the problem just by slightly lowering the inclination angle and wholllaaa signal strenght on 2D is back to what it was few weeks ago...
I did this fine tuning on two 4.2 and a 3m prime focus dish between 8pm-10pm and they all got back 2D without the breakups they had been experiencing lately..

*Zorba
Can you please do the same alteration on the setups you have had problems on 2D lately and confirm?

maybe he's talking about dreamboxes, somehow my thread got hijacked.
Meanwhile,back at the ranch....
The humidity here goes up and down continuously, reception of 2D is getting better at night,i get breakups in spasms but not the same time every night.i have one of those gadgets that give temperature and humidity and about 9pm local time it was 69% and bbc was breaking up a bit and now at 10.30 its 44% and everything is fine(and it's forecasting rain for tomorrow ,probably nicosia )
(* iceman,i didnt see your post till i finished typing mine,we were probably typing the same time)

Well...Am i glad to have that confirmed M8....
I wonder why this has happened but it certainly looks like the orbital position of 2D has been slightly altered:confused
As you know out here in Cyprus, those of us who work a lot on 28E Astras noticed that the elevation of 2D was always slightly higher that 2A & 2B Astras..I always had to point the dish little to the right and a bit up from 2A & 2B to peak on 2D but always making sure not to stray away too much from 2A to loose 11778..
Looks like we wont have to do this anymore;)

by the way......what size dish are you using?
I have a 3m motorised prime focus Channel Master at home (no room for a 4.2) and i have an excellent signal on ITV Yorkshire at the moment...
I use a 7020s Dreambox...excellent tuner on these boxes:-righton

That will explain why we have trouble with the listings in the afternoon.Because all my installations are for receiving bbc/itv, the alignment is maximised for 2D so the dish is slightly off from 2A/B.
I was in Paphos today connecting two customers to a neighbours existing 2.7m dish and it was about 2pm .When I powered up both digiboxes they both came up no signal so I had to change the default transponder.bbc and itv were okay
* iceman,you did it again.I have a 3m DH with the pace 3100 digibox

Been having similar problems over here in the Canaries. Last Summer there were no signal problems at all. So much so that the 2.3M Famaval would work all evening and not suffer until 1.30am ish. As the winter drew in this time became earlier until eventually it was going at about 7.30pm. The 3.1M works all year as long as its correctly aligned. This summer we have been seeing problems at the 7.30 mark - on the 2.3M - (which is great as its soap time so I don't have to watch it!!!) which then clear up again about 8.30-9pm.

Had a very strange one 2 nights ago whilst watching BBC1 the signal was fine with no blocking at all at 9.58pm. By 10.01 the picture had broken up so badly the picture was unrecognisable and the picture was completely frozen. This is so unusual as it happened so quickly. Normally you would expect any problems to show with a few blocks then clear then a few more etc. This went from good to bad in no time at all. The weather had not changed and there was hardly any wind to blame.
By 10.25 the picture was back with absoloutly no problems at all, not a flicker for the next 3 hours. Strange!!!!
From memory (and its getting old and tired) the Astra birds "move" around in a 36km squared immaginary cube in the sky. Is it possible that they are in a slightly different place at the moment - of course this would not be seen in the Uk but in fringe areas may be why Iceman etc are having to lower the elevation. I think anyway, Altzeimers does run in the family!!O-Ha

I did a check here and noticed it is much stronger than the other V-transponders. This one locks the tuner and produces an often pixelated picture here. Other V-transponders on Astra 2D won't even lock.

I live on the Finnish west-coast and the extended line drawn from Astra 2D boresight trough the Stockholm area. The H-transponders clear most of the day on a 1.8m prime focus but the V-transponders have been completely unavailable since early spring. At that time I noticed a 2% reduction in H-pol signals and V-pol went from occasional lock/picture to NIL. I have tried to realign my system but found no improvement. Hoping dry and clear winter conditions will bring the signal levels back.

A couple of days after i aligned my dish at night,i checked in the morning at about 9.30 local time and bbc was really bad so i went on to the roof and changed the elevation again and bbc worked.I aligned it back in the evening and i get minimal break up,sometimes none at all, last night humidity peaked at 82% and i had very little break up on bbc at 9.30-9.45(then i switched over to watch Chelsea win:))Tonight 63% humidity and little break up at 9.20 for 5 minutes. So, iceman, does that mean we now have to install dishes after sunset? And i can have lie ins every day :)
Another interesting point, every day the sun is inching lower in the sky with the equinox happening in a few weeks.Any links?

Well....Not necessarily install after sunset but definately finalise the new installations after at least 8pm...Just came home from a new installation half an hour ago...This is the second new 4.2m installation i finalised after sunset this week..
If i get them working on 2D after 8pm then they wont give any problems at all..
One thing i noticed that signal on 2D is fluctuating like mad between 8-10pm..It is all over the place...
