hi all.

been readin diffrent threads guides etc for a while, found plenty on installing the image, setting up the network etc and begingin to understand it. BUT what im after first off is just the general set up info.

im looking to use dreambox500s only for mulitroom at home. (they seem suitable for what il be using them for ?? )

so lets say i want it for 1 bedroom.

i understand i buy 2 boxes (1 for the server 1 for the client)

i understand i put the images on and set network up etc.

so heres where im not sure atm. whats the actual setup of the server ?

i.e
do i slot the white card into the db ?
what happens to the actual subbed box ?
does the server connect to my tv in main room or does it conect to the subbed box?
does the server connect to the dish or the subbed box?

if someone could give me the intial basic set up would be appreciated.

Put the subscription card into the DB.

Connect the dish to the DB.

Ignore the sub box, in fact you can box it up and put it away safely if you so wish as it plays no part in the system unless you want to use it for the free channels.

DB #1 IS the server - DB # 2 connects across the lan to #1.

can read up more now and plan more now i see how it goes.

may look at better box for server for a start now as no hard drive/ maybe not in hd(?) either in 500s i believe
 
Be careful if you intend to use CCcam.

The latest CCcam 2.1.4 version will not keep your Ѕky card updated, meaning you have to keep putting the card back into the Ѕky box every month.
 
2.1.3 will keep the card updated. It has been doing so in my 7020 so it shouldn't be any different in the 500 :D

My Sky card hasn't been in the Skybox since 2.1.3 came out :D

I found CCcam 2.1.4 to be quite unstable on my old DM500s so i would recommend using 2.1.3.

Make sure you set the card speed at 357Mhz. If you set it much higher it will damage your card, although they are only £10 to get a new one. Just make sure you tell them you lost it :D
