Looks like there's a new satellite in the midst, DirecTV 1R which has been moved to 56E, serving as a backup for a very aged Bonum-1 satellite. It will haveRussian NTV+ Vostok (NTV+ East) and Trikolor packets from January 2013.

Doubt it will be accessible in UK but the footprint is a lot more generous than that of Bonum-1.

Apparently, it's already testing on 12412 linear polarisation. Obvious signal peaks as fast east as Kaliningrad and Kiev.

Can anyone with CrazyScan check this?

For my surprise, the power of test signal is equal to Astra 1F in my location.

Hi tempo, yes, I am :) Hope you don't mind! I guess where you are, you are still on the edge of footprint so you should be getting at least something there. I hope the signal spills over to the UK more than the footprint suggests.

P.S. Off topic - I am from Saratov originally, so not too far from you. It seems to be in the centre of pretty much all Russian sats, whereas in south western England, it's not quite so rosy since Platforma left 9E.

Bonum 1 is an old Boeing 376 spinner launched Nov 22nd 1998. Lifetime was expected to be 11 years so shes well past her best. There cant be many operational spinners left in European skies now.

DirectV 1R is another Boeing - but this time its a 3-axis stabilised 601, launched Oct 9th 1999 with a 15 year lifespan.

Nice. They are just throwing old satellites at 56E as Bonum 1 is 1.1 degrees inclined (max). This one is 0.5 degrees inclined.

There were successful reception reports of this satellite in Poland on larger dishes as well (2m+). Anyone in UK with a 1.8m dare try it? nelson_b/aceb/pride, I am looking at you :)

hi --

too far east for me i,m afraid 53 E is my limit -- almost half my dish is blocked by the roof of a building by then --

regards --

nelson_b, is that your 1.8m dish that's limited? What about the 1.2m one? Or even the Fibo...?

I went passed a bookies the other day, standing next to it was a 1M? CM but it was on what looked to be a 5m tall 3" steel ground post bolted into the concrete, now that I could do with! I would even get the 1.8 in a spot where it could see 68.5E but we can all dream LOL

Once the weather sorts itself out I'll get the 1.2m back up and see if I can see anything from this one.

Thanks Paul. I'd try it on my Fibo, but I can't see beyond 45E because of trees and houses in the way (can't knock the houses down I am afraid!).

Yeah, I wonder where these bookies get those huge T&K brackets and long, sturdy poles!
