Just Sharing This 76.5E Apstar 7

I received this image earlier today from Mike along the coast but have waited until someone with good reception of the satellite could confirm the position (thanks Satesco). So around 0630 this morning while the skies were very clear with cold air to the east he locked a signal 8 'clicks' further east than 75E.

The TBS5927 does sometimes report incorrect modes and SNR on weak unstable signals so these can't be relied on but I doubt Crazyscan could falsely lock and report all of it.

Apstar is supposedly 0.1° elevation (not allowing for his HASL) although Satbeams shows the MENA beam terminating about 12KM east of here, presumably due to earth curvature. In total the lock LED locked three times so it does appear that given the correct conditions he can see 76.5E.

Have there been any other UK reports of this satellite?

The strongest freq. for me in this position is 11529 H (Data)

It is possible for a fair chunk of Southeast and Eastern England albeit at obviously low elevation so I'm surprised someone hasn't managed it, it reaches a respectable .9° on the Kent coast. Almost worth a day trip to Broadstairs just to try for it!

My thanks to Satesco for making a couple of images showing 76.5E and 11481H at his location. Now we have an idea of what the strongest signals are and in what part of the bands Mike is going to set up some sub bands to scan using EBS in loop mode for when the weather is on our side.

I'm pretty sure he only wears the heels at the weekend ;)

How many other enthusiasts do you think are on the south cost,and
1) Know this satellite exists
2) know this satellite is above the horizon
3) have a clear line down to 0.9 of a degree,
4) have a dish that is -precisely - steerable down to the absolute horizon, and
5) have an analyser that can pick out the one signal that confirms something is actually above the noise ?

with an antenna of 1.20 m
that's what I can lock.

Good reception here for Apstar 7 @ 76.5e MENA beam but only 1 transponder locked at 12 db
