8 LNBs to one receiver

Hi everyone

I’ve got a couple of dishes which are on opposite walls of the flat with my bedroom in between them. I have been using one of them and am going to start using the other too.

The one I have been using is fitted with a multiblock holder and has 4 lnbs on it for 26, 23, 19 and 13E and it’s working beautifully. On the other I’m putting another multiblock holder for a few other satellites – probably 5 & 1W, 5 & 9E.

It’s the cabling that’s bothering me – I have a couple of 4-way Diseqc switches which I want to use – I’m using one of them already with the first dish. I know that I can get an 8-way off Ebay, but as I have one of the dishes up and working already using one of the switches I want to use the other switch for the other dish and take the output from each of the 4-ways to the receiver. I think I need something called an uncommitted switch for this? I’ve searched for these and can’t find anyone selling them. Is this the proper name for them?

If I used an 8-way it’d cost me a fortune in cable as I’d have to take 4 cables from the second dish all the way across the roof to where the 4-way currently is, as I’d just replace it with the 8-way.

Can anyone advise?

Yes you need a 2 way uncommitted diseqc switch as you have said. Spaun do them, you'd probably have to find a shop in Europe that sells them. You could also try sateuropa he might be able to source one for you.
You could use an 8 way one as well ( only use 2 of the ports) as long as its fully uncommitted, I think someone posted a reference to a cheap one on eBay a few days or so ago.

You mention using the 8-way on Ebay - would this be just a case of connecting the outputs of both of the 4-ways to 2 of the inputs of the 8-way (eg LNB1 and LNB2), and then taking the output from the 8-way to the receiver? I don't understand what you mean by "as long as its fully uncommitted" - I'm fairly new to all this ;-)

Anyway, I get the impression that these 2-way uncommitted switches are difficult to get?

You mention the 8-way on Ebay – would this simply be a case of taking the outputs from both of the 4-ways and using them as inputs for the 8-way, for example LNB1 and LNB2 inputs? And then taking the output from the 8-way to the receiver? My receiver (Technomate TM5200D USB Super+) has DiSEqC 1.0 and 1.1.

I don’t understand what you mean by “as long as its fully uncommitted” – I’m fairly new to all this switching wizardry! ;-)

Yes, just use two of the inputs of the 8 way.

Some 8 way switches are configured as 2x 4 way diseqc 1.0 switches together with a 2,way diseqc 1.1 inside. That is of no use to you.

The emp centauri one is configurable via a dipswitch as either a 8 way diseqc 1.1( uncommited), or 2x4 ways+ a 2way diseqc 1.1, or as a 4 way diseqc 1.0. You need the switch to be diseqc 1.1 only, or switchable to that, as you want to cascade with diseqc1.0

Ok thanks for that - I'll give the Chinese 8-way a try as it's a 1.1 and if it doesn't work it's only a tenner.
