800 HDD Recordings

Hi all, my 800HD hasn't arrived yet but I wondered if anyone with the HDD installed has transferred recorded files to a PC and could comment on the format of these media files.

I'm also particularly interested in whether recordings from encrypted channels are sent to the disc in that form, or have they been decrypted before recording?

To put it another way, does the viewing card have to be in the slot on playback? :)
 
Think they're recorded in a TS file format and you can watch the films you've recorded without the card in
 
Thanks for that, I remember coming across .TS files with other PVRs.

I get the impression there's plenty of software out there for converting them to Mpeg2 for DVD authoring.
