My Satellite Setup
Strong 4375 driving a 2.4 m Channel Master dual focus offset + Invcom Quad C120 K/U l.n.b. + BSC 421 and Zinwell C band l.n.b.,s - DR HD F15 - TM5302 - Octagon SX88+Optima - GT Media V7 - HD receivers. + other dishes currently in use - Antique 3.0 m Prodelin P.F. - Channel Master 1.8 m offset - Channel Master. 1.2 m.
My Location
North West Yorkshire - near Lancashire & Cumbria borders.
For the last couple of days i,m picking up 2 channels -
A.I.T. International u.k. 4079 H 4445 DVBS
A.I.T. Lagos 4090 H 2963 DVBS (Biss encrypted)
my positioner calculations place them as coming from 50 west ?
can this be correct ? i cant find any listings for these channels on this sat or any others in that area -
can anyone receive these channels and confirm the sat position --

regards nelson.b.

Hello nelson.b.,

thanks for the great "catch"! :-)

I can confirm both transponders logged in here in Austria!

And they are on 50° West thats correct.

Regards Montafon Guy!

thanks for the confirmation - Montafon Guy!-
the signal has weakened here today - (poor weather) - but still stable .

Hello nelson.b.,

there is even more on this "bird":

a very poor signal on 4085 H 4445 and on 4106 H 2963 is an AIT PH feed....

Can you catch them maybe?

Regards Montafon Guy!

thanks for the info - Montafon Guy! -
no - i don,t get anything from those frequencies - i,v got them in my receiver now and will check from time to time - but i think i,m quite near the receiving limit with the other channels - so i don,t hold much hope, to be honest --

cheers nelson.b.

hi c.c i have not got 50w in my receiver so i used the 53w satellite which i moved to 50w to see if i could get the a.i.t channels, to my surprise i got two which are 4079H and4085 i could not get anything from the other two.

hi - pride21-
yes i now get the same two as you -
and - AIT National 4085 H is the stronger of the two
A.I.T. Lagos 4090 H 2963 (Biss encrypted) is no longer there for me ---
your dish setup must be well tuned - as they are not the strongest C band signals around .
cheers ---

Indeed I suspect the dish has to be very accurately set up ..

I have spent 2 days trying to get signals from 50W..
Not a squeak ...nada ...nish...
And I think my dish is set up well ...hough not yet fully optimised with the new tripod..

My conclusion ..fwiw...is that being a bit more westward than Nelson ...either puts me just outside the fringe of this footprint .....or just possibly I may me clipping a house over the road ...which according to dishpointer should not present an obstruction providing it doesn't exceed 14.5 mtrs high
Its a semi -detached with a pitched sloping side to the roof ..
and it could just be in my line of sight by a few feet...
A close call ...
But getting signals from 55West no probs ...and the data transponder on 45West ....
50west and 53west remain 'dark' for me..

hi - vipersan -

keep trying - with AIT National 4085 H its the better of the two strength wise it seems stronger for me today - when i checked despite the awful weather -

yesterday i changed my setup slightly and put up the pauxis 900 with a home made conical feed , as a "temporary" second C band l.n.b".for the linear signals on the 1.8 offset -- and although it does not perform as well as the b.s.c .421 with the manufactured blue feed it is not bad , and is getting these 2 at 50 west ok but with a reduced signal :)

but it wont pull in the 3 transponders that i was able to get at 58 west - "yet"
( more experiments with the feed perhaps l.o.l.)
there is just a flicker on 3880 V 27690 -a perimiter wall is blocking a good 1/5 th
of the dish at that position --
i ,m still losing around 1/6 th at 50 west

keep trying :) -- cheers nelson.b.

just looking on here last night -- i see that the t.p. signal strength has changed somewhat for me from this sat -- here in north west u.k.
just these two are recievable --
4106 H 2963 -- AIT -Parliamenta gives a lockable signal
4085 H 4444 -- AIT - News gives a "very" weak signal now -with slight picture breakup

regards nelson.b.

..I'll be a while yet Nelson ..but am looking forward to trying again to pick up this bird..
Ya never know ..the extra height plus better alignment..might just pull it in.

signals from this sat have been getting weaker every day , here for me - now,
4085 H 4444 -- AIT - News dropped out a couple of days ago
4106 H 2963 -- AIT -Parliamenta is almost gone now (will not lock )

regards nelson.b.

hi nelson_b i tried the other day to see if i can pick up the two channels i had but it seems its a no no.

Back up to a good strength again this afternoon -- blind scan revealed 3 channels
AIT -INT- USA ---- 4079 H 4444
AIT -NEWS - 4085 H 4445
AIT - PARLIAMENTA --4112 H 2963
(parliamenta on a different frequency today)

I'll give it another go if its still up to strength...
btw m8 ...your Ferro is done..
Working a treat ....one of the best sounding transtor based amps I've ever heard..

No luck Nelson ...
though I have found a deeper mystery ...and maybe the reason for not being able to 'see' anything in this portion of sky.

In desperation I tried blind scans over a radius of about 10 degrees centred roughly at where I believed 50W to be ..
I even tried inclining & declining the dish a little ..
This is where it gets interestng ..
The dish is currently declined by about 2 degrees ..
and regardless of where I point the dish within that 10 degree window ..I get an enormous signal which puts the db meter in the F15 right up towards the right of scale ..
its roughly about 4070 right circular ...but shows up much reduced in the horizontal/left circular...
..but still there ..
..so it effectively swamps the front end in this portion of Cband ..
Could it be terrestrial in origin ..
..possibly some over powerful wifi system ...
maybe ..
Though the dish is still pointing into space ...and of course I can receive H/V signals at a much lower declination at 55W and 58W ..
So its real enough ..but where is it coming from ..??
and at that elevation ..it does look to be non terrestrial in origin ..

Can you possibly check if there is an unlockable ...unresolvable ....possible data channel at roughly 4070 > 4100 Right circular..
If you get nothing ..then it is likely localised ..and maybe whats preventing me seeing 50W

it must be something local to you -- i dont see a hint of anything at 4070 > 4100 Right circular/vertical

i get signals -- from 2 of the channels i.v listed + weak unlockable signals from another 3 that are listed on flysat -- on horizontal at 4070 > 4100

i wonder what it is thats swamping you ?

..Thanks for checking Nelson ..
Chances are I'm being swamped by some hyper strong wifi link or node ..
They oerate in the same spectrum ..so I believe..
Nothing I can do about it I guess..
:(

...As to the Ferrograph amp ..
Another working antique I've ressurected..
Getting to be a habit ;)

...Hmm ..
Tried to blame Barton Aerodrome ..
which I know is roughly in that direction ...
Google shows it to be 30 degrees west of me
Roughly along the line of Hispasat ..
so thats not the culprit either...
Back to blaming WiFi ..
