A Motor, a Dish and a Desperate Man!

My Satellite Setup
Fortec Star FSCOII
Fortec Universal LNB
90 cm dish (not motorised)
My Location
Hampshire, New Forest
Hi all,

Yep. I know. Like an unfaithful partner, I've been gone so long and now come crawling back when I want something. Fickle. Shallow. All that and more. But I beg forgiveness, before I go absolutely insane!

In my defence, I moved a couple of years ago. The set-up that had worked so successfully following your help and guidance was dismantled and, as the new house needed lots of work, was mothballed for a couple of years until things less frivolous were out of the way.

But now I'm back. The cheapo Fortec star 95cm (I think!) dish is back up, with a glorious and unimpeded view of the southern sky. The mounting pole has been tweaked and adjusted to be as straight as straight can be, and the passage of time allowed the addition of a Technomate TM2600 motor. International TV here I come; or so I thought!

Now; I remember all the stuf I was told about identifying a single satellite and transponder frequency, and I know to go for Thor at 0.8w to align the set up in the first instance. But where I'm having difficulty is the elevation of the dish relative to the motor arm and the motor unit relative to its mounting. I know the calculations are never exact and expect to have to tweak it up and down, but I think I've got too many things a little out and need a little help to know I'm in the right sort of area!

I have read your many threads and guides, all of which are very useful. Further infidelity at satsig.net also allowed the use of an elevation calculator, but still, I think I'm getting this wrong. My head is now sore and the garage wall bloody, so I am really hoping some kind soul can just say "Alex, adjust to this"!

My Location is Lat: 50.9743 Long: -1.9600. I believe the Technomate has a crank of 30 degrees to its arm. I also believe the dish offset is 22.75 (was the same for 95cm and 105cm dish and its one of the two!).

My question is, to what should I set the elevation on the dish scale and to what should I set the elevation on the motor mount scale? Once done, should I adjust the dish or motor mount up and down?

I calculated the dish at 29.06 deg and the motor mount at 58.39, but this looks just to extreme. Or is that because I'm not used to pointing at sats in this location?

I know I am being very lazy and asking a great deal, but I apologise for that and would appreciate the guidance. The old brain currently feels like a sponge that has been rung dry!!

Many thanks
Alex

Set Motor to 51 on its Latitude Scale (There are two scales - one in Lat., the other Elevation: Ignore the Elevation scale)

Set dish bracket to around 25 as a starting point for alignment.

Send motor to zero, then select Thor in the receiver.

Move dish/motor as a single assembly around mounting pole to align Azimuth and adjust dish bracket (not motor brakcet) to align elevation.

Use the BBC World TP to start with as we know it is strong. Once found, find a weaker TP and home in further.
