A question on LNB skew ...

Howdy all,

A quick question concering LNB skew.

When I use one of the well know calculator sites to get the specified skew for my location and satellite choice, is this value only then valid for the LNB at prime focus? i.e. do I need to adjust it if I am using an offset LNB?

Yes, but probably only very slightly.

As setting up offset LNBs is a "pat your head while rubbing your tummy" task anyway, tweaking the skew is just another task to consider.

Yes, I have been using a suck-it-and-see type approach.

I have 19E on primefocus, and taking 13E on offset, using what I had thought to be one of the weaker channels on 13E as a reference when aligning. To my annoyance then, after I had put all tools away and sat down in the living room to watch something, I noticed that some of the 13E channels had a low SNR / high BER, and the picture was jittery from time to time.

After reading a bit more on skew today, I would imagine that I made the error of not looking at any Vertical transponders when I was aligning. I notice that the Horizontal channels are all good quality, and it's some of the Vertical ones where I am getting the problem. Hence I'm pretty sure now that skew must be my problem, and a little twist here or there should sort me out.

Moral of the story would seem to be always check both polarities before coming in from the balcony and tidying up! :D
