Top Tip A reminder - Ukrainian channels to encrypt in January

Just a quick reminder that many of the currently fta Ukranian channels will encrypt on January 20th. Channels belonging to these companies will be affected

1+1 Media
StarLightMedia
Inter Media Group
Media Group Ukraine

Sadly this means the fta offerings will be decimated with getting on for a dozen channels likely to disappear.

Music Box has now encrypted.

It would seem a lot of people in Ukraine are not happy with the encryption and it has been agreed one channel from each of the 4 service providers will have an international version supplied fta for 2 years.

Anyone know whats going on with ATR? (11747V). Presumably its under threat of closure

ATR has to cope with serious financial problems.

By the way: ICTV Ukraine (Starlight Media Group: ICTV, STB Novy Channel) is going to start as a FTA channel on 4° W.

Thatr will be one of the International channels mentioned earlier that will exist for 2 years initially.

1+1 International has already appeared on 6E

T2MI is clearing for me on Engima 2 tonight Astra 4.8e 12188H 30000
M1 , 2+2 , K2 , TET
Same frequency/SIDs as before. Theres also a youtube video of the latest find.

They are not getting enough money from ads.

Encryption and subscription is not a reliable cure to the money problem. Only about 16% of sat viewers in Germany pay for the encrypted HD transponders of the commercial channels, they watch the free SD versions. I expect many won't pay if the SD transponders are switched off, they will do without.

Prices for Ukraine packages are much different than Germany and West EU. Prices for XTRA TV packages are around 5 EUR per month for about 100 channels. Not bad.

You say it's not bad but when most are earning just above the minimum needed to live, it's an extra they shouldn't really now be forced to pay out this many years after.

You could use exactly the same argument for Sky UK - the Ukranians will get a nasty shock when the priices start getting ratcheted up year on year.......

You have to put subscriptions fees in relation to average net incomes.

Ukraine: about 315 € monthly
Germany: about 2330 € monthly

The basic package which contains basically all the Ukrainian freeview channels is about 2.95 € per month (0.9% of the average net income), whereas the all inclusive package costs 9.90 € monthly (3.15%).

The regular price for the Sky DE all inclusive package is 80 € (3.4%) but most people pay much less (30 € - 1.3%)

The Inter Media Group is considering to return to FTA broadcast. The Inter Group faces problems on the TV commercial market and the number of subscribers to the newly established PayTV offer is rather disappointing.

Channels that would be affected by this move are Inter, K1, K2, NTN, Mega, Pixel, Zoom and Enter Film.

:-rofl2:-rofl2

Blimey its only been a few months - they have to be bold enough to stick it out if they want to persuade people to pay for services, not throw the towel in the first time the dismal viewing figures come out
