A tough hard drive question

Say you have one internal hard-drive working perfectly well, on Windows XP, can you also install a second internal hard-drive (I see there's enough space inside the tower) in the pc, and operate that hard-drive on Windows XP, despite it previously being run on Windows 1998 1st Edition, in the same tower as the first hard-drive without any conflicting reaction causing disablement to the first drive because of the second drive running on a different Windows.

of course you can, just check jumper settings. XP will see it but you might want to consider reformatting it to NTFS

Check your IDE cables and connectors too.

To use CD/DVD drives and two hard drives you will need two connectors on the motherboard, then two cables (three headed cables for connecting two devices).

You will almost certainly have two IDE connectors on the board, however it's worth a check as some the small mini ATX ones only had one.

Also make sure that the hard drive is in the first IDE channel, if your motherboard supports ATA100/133 (fast speed) then it will probably only do so on the first channel (often the motherboard connector is dark blue to show this), you will also need a ATA100 compatible cable
