A vertical MAST to mount a motor, a Must?

My Satellite Setup
1m motorized dish
DM500 FortecStar FSIR5400 DM500HD DM800.
My Location
Tripoli, Libay, the former rogue state capital
I'm tring to set up a motorized dish.
Because of communicating difficulties, I bought home a "half Y shape" pole, a regular dish mount, bolts and other insignificant things; and
a 1m dish,
a Star Net Diseqc 1.2 motor,
an LNB.
But the "half Y shape" pole(Y without a branch, if you know what I mean) is likely to be a fixed dish pole. And according to what I've read and the motor manual, a perfectly vertical mast is what I need for a motorized dish.

Can anyone tell me is a vertical pole a must for a motorized dish? or can I just sit it on the ground like a fixed dish?

If your mast isn't vertical, then obtaining a perfect arc will be difficult, the closer to vertical you get it, the easier the installation will be.
 
A motorised dish can be ground mounted as well of course, but ideally on a mount that has a vertical pole.

Why don't you post up a picture of what you have bought, and describe how you intend to use it. We then may be able to give a view whether its do-able or not.

It is not good for a motorised dish, whether on the ground or mounted to a wall.

But it is do-able, with a lot of messing around.

As Rolf says, if you want it to be relatively easy to install, make it vertical, if you want to struggle, make it wonky.
 
...according to the website where the picture is from, the universal mount is "not recommended for motorized dish". sh*t.
I think I need to make an exchange.
