It was the first bird to be launched by Sea launch from a floating platform out at sea launched October 9, 1999.

The attached pdf will explain everything as to why its going east

The planned location was slightly changed to 55.8 East: _http://licensing.fcc.gov/myibfs/download.do?attachment_key=966099
It should arrive around 17 December with the present speed.
Indeed it's planned there only for a short while, Bonum 1 has almost 1 degree inclination which is getting too much without following the satellite. But DirecTV already now has 0.4 degree inclination.
