ABS wins Sony play-out
London is maintaining its position as a major centre for multiple television channel play-out, with Sony Entertainment Television Asia continuing to transmit the European version of SET-Asia from the UK.
The broadcaster had been using a facility in Soho but after a tendering process European play-out operations for SET-Asia have been moved to the facilities of Advanced Broadcast Services (ABS) in Park Royal, to the west of London.
SET-Asia produces two channels from Sony's play-out centre in Singapore, one for the Indian market, the other for viewers in Europe, the Middle East, North America, South America, Africa and Australasia. The international feed is beamed by satellite to ABS's facility, where it is re-packaged for re-transmission to the UK and Europe.
This involves producing relevant promos, adding local advertisements and news bulletins and conforming all material to Ofcom standards. The finished programmes are then assembled for broadcast on DTH and cable platforms across the UK and mainland Europe.
Rajan Singh, EVP of international business at Sony Entertainment Television Asia, said: "Relocating to ABS from central London has greatly improved our operational efficiency and made our technical infrastructure more cost-efficient as well.”
