I'm in need of some straight cuts on a piece of HSS metal and have a good angle grinder with the appropriate diamond blade.

Has anyone got advice on the best way to hold the grinder securely against the piece of metal, I had thought of cobbling something to turn it into a hinged device, similar to a bench circular saw for wood, but if there is an easier way then I'm all ears.

Sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Too big a job for a hacksaw or jigsaw?

Reg Prescott again.

It's high carbon steel from a CAD machine, the best bimetal blades I have won't touch it.

Toying with the idea of a mitre saw base converted to fit the grinder.

I used these for stainless steel, burn out a bit quick but do a good job.

Thanks, I already have the diamond cutting disk and a powerful 125mm grinder here, just looking for stability beyond a steady hand.

Maybe a couple of beers beforehand..

Can you replace the blade on the miter saw with the diamond disk? Or are the two of different sized shaft holes.

I have in a pinch used some plywood and two by fours to make up a base for an angle grinder, using a large heavy duty hinge, some heavy hose clamps, I made up a base of plywood with the 2x4's as the mount and handle for the grinder.

Some grinders have a mounting hole for a handle, you can also use that to help hold the grinder to the 2x4, just use the correct sized bolt to help mount the grinder.

By mitre saw I mean the large hacksaw lookalike, which comes with a locking plinth for cutting specific angles.

Yes, the grinder has a removeable handle, thanks (another idea).
