Character actor Dudley Sutton has died aged 85.

Probably best known for his role in Lovejoy with the roguish antique dealer played by Ian McShane, he has appeared in many TV series and soaps (East Enders, Porridge, Holby City). I remember him also earlier in his career as a biker in the film The Leather Boys.

I also remember him earlier in his career in the shows such as The Avengers, Z Cars and The Saint when he seemed to play a succession of sinister baddies.

A versatile actor, his shortest 'bit part' must have been this one though.


Appeared in both incarnations of Randall and Hopkirk Deceased.
