Took apart the XL version - there's nothing really much to adjust. Everything inside was clean and well greased. The jack itself is a standard thread/nut arrangement but the fixing to the gearbox body is done by a couple of ball bearings. Sadly, it's this fixing that's introducing this slight play. I might be able to alleviate it a bit by fitting in some washers but....it would be a bodge.

If it does fail, I may consider an expensive jack - let's hope the price justifies it.

Would anyone be interested in a group buy from the US, perhaps with some of our friends on the other side of the lake? @scopus, @Vipersan, @John - would you be interested in such a purchase?

Yeah, would be interested on what could be obtained, snag might be that we might need different sizes which might effect a group buy.... mine needs to be a 36" stroke and really proper heavy duty to be able to lug it off it's most extreme position.

I believe the Venture ones are pretty heavy duty. Understand your position with the CM and its many attachments though!

In a moment of desperation, I decided to try and fix the play. The issue was that the rod was held by a tiny circlip and this is where it was loose. So to make it as tight as possible, I threaded the stub in the gearbox and put a bolt on it. Having ball bearings, I could tighten it up pretty nicely and still have free movement.

We'll see how long it lasts.

Presume you meant nut CJ.

There appears to be nothing to stop the nut loosening off so can I suggest another plain nut as a locknut or Nyloc self-locking nut?

Nut, yes :) That nut can't go anywhere. On top of it is a large cog and the whole thing is enclosed - it simply has nowhere to go.

Is there an update on this issue ?
If you are importing a better quality actuator, I am interested...

Four of us went for importing either 24" & 36" Venture actuators from the States. Very expensive but they wipe the floor with the SuperJack variants used previously.

Check to see where the wires are going. Thicker wires will be the motor...

Not sure how much of a 'fly lead' length you have coming out of the connection cover, perhaps you can advise, depending on the length and gauge it will have a slight effect on the readings. Also do you suspect any damp etc within the cover ?.
Does one of the two cables have a thicker gauge as CJ suggested ?.
My 36" Quarl readings taken directly onto the terminals of the motor & reed switch under the cover are: 13ohms motor - 0.3ohms across the reed switch

thank you for support
I have managed to open It
20 Ohm cable was motor and 4 Ohms - reed sensor
another question, on bottom of the plastic cap there are two holes through which Is coming dirt
what Is purpose of this - can I close them to prevent from dirt
what Is correct placement of actuator - with two cap holes pointing down, In that case water comes through cables big hole which Is up

Iv'e always run my two actuators with vents to the bottom with no issues up to now.
The 'Venture' actuator has top cable entry with a well sealed gland and the 'GeoTrack' actuator has a simple grommet type cable entry at the bottom.
