Actuators AGAIN ...

Well for good or ill ..it's up in the ether now ..

This happened this morning with feedsats fireworks vid ..
I got the same message ..but it later gave me access ..
??
I definately didn't set my vid as private..

If it has automatically been listed as private ...where do I change this ..?

Crikey, that's bad VS. How could that have happened? Obviously at some stage during assembly in the factory.

We have completed the testing.
It was rather more involved than expected.
When we did the testing this morning it was a different design of actuator. More about that later.
I need to explain from the start.

Our stock of Superjack actuators came from our supplier in Germany and they have been supplied for about 8 years. The design has always been the same.
We had one of these actuators in stock and this afternoon were able to look at it in detail and also your u tube video.
The actuators tested this morning are different.

So to recap, in March of this year I had meetings with the factory with an aim to buying direct. This took some time to organise and required a large order.
They new stock as a result of those negotiations arrived about 6 weeks ago.
However, we still had stock from Germany and that was sold first.
The last stock arrived from Germany in June. Your actuator and the one remaining in stock came from that batch from Germany.
Therefore to summarise from this stock we have one 24 inch heavy duty actuator left and that is the same as yours.
It was tested this afternoon.

We have found also the new stock direct from the factory is a new different design.

The 24 inch heavy duty actuator from the German stock is the same as in your u tube video. There is a wobble on the magnet.
This is not a magnet which has been assembled (incorrectly) offset on the shaft. This wobble is because the end of the Nylon shaft is at a slight angle.
This does result in a varying distance from the magnet to the reed switch.

However, whilst this design looks like it might be a problem there are two considerations.
1. If the varying distance is small, and as long as the magnet is within a max. distance from the reed switch to work correctly (i.e. within a sufficiently strong magnetic field) a variation within that max. distance if not going to affect the V Box counting.
2. Since we have had no problems with this design over an 8 year period we must assume assumption 1 is correct.

Therefore if the V Box you have is counting correctly I must assume everything is within specification.

The new stock of actuators are a different design and if you would like it changing for one of them I have no problem with that
If so I can send one our and I would ask that you return the one you have at your convenience.

Yes please David ..I would indeed like to swap the one I have ...for one that doesn't have the wobble ..
as you say it may or may not be responsible for the counting inaccuracy ...but since my previously fitted ..now failed superpowerjack never exhibited such inaccuracies during it's rather short life ..I have to assume the jack is responsble for the problems ..
I will of course return the one I have already received from you ..In good time one replaced.
A couple of things though ..
First the rubber jack end sleeve on this one has been shortened a little to allow the cuff to grip the jack as close to the end as possible ..so I wont trim the new one ..simply swap it over with the new one ..
Also I'll retain the cuff and rose joint assy as this shouldn't be any different ...
making the swapover easier..
I will also refit the original reed switch before returning it ..
This did appear to cause problems by spot welding internally a couple of times ..though this too could have been down to the magnetic wheel proximity ..
Hard to tell.
appart from that no other changes
I assume once removed and packaged you will arrange collection ?

I hope it's ok to copy and paste the details of your reply re- the newer sourced actuators to our group ..?

That is all fine.
The actuator which was tested this afternoon, which is the same as yours, counted perfectly hence my assumption that the magnet stays within the specified distance even though it does wobble.
Looking at the design I am convinced this is normal.
Also if the new reed switch provided is working fine, just leave it in the actuator.

A new actuator of the latest design will be sent tomorrow and you can let me know when the other one is ready for collection.
No problem using any of our communications on the forum.

We give all of our customers equal support whether they have connections with forums or not.
That is why we have many returning regular customers even from 24 years ago when we started.

This museum was accepted by the British Library about 2 years ago for archiving.
That means future generations will always be able to access the site no matter what eventually happens to the site when I am gone.
Not that I am intending exiting this world in the near future!
I thought forum members may be interested in the satellite museum if they have been enthusiasts for many years.
It will bring back memories.

Many of our members have including myself have already visited your on line museum ...and it is indeed a treasure to be sure ..
Like you I have been involved with and loved this subject for many years ..but only as a hobby enthusiast ..
Most of our forum members both young and old have great love love for the subject...and respect for each other..
I can seriously recommend that if you only ever join one forum in the future ..
then ours comes highly recommended...both for fun ..and technical insight and creativity.
(but then I am biased)
You would always be made welcome.
and I promise you would not be pressured to join in any more than you wanted to.

So ..
the replacement QARL 3624 has arrived ..
It has indeed been re-designed ..which begs the question ..
Why ? as these are not small changes ..
Back is the classic Cam system ...
Gone is the wobbly worm and push-rod..
Back are the drain holes ..
in gact it looks for all the world like my previous superpowerjack 3624 ..
Except its a bit thinner ...and is black ..

Welp, now that I am not using the 1224 for the 1.8m (and looks like @martin-f isn't either in the long term), I'll be back on the prowl for the American jacks... So, group order is still on the cards.
 
I have had no return on the emails but I am in on any order:), I will be using three dishes in the end so it will get used somewhere along the line
