Adding an LNB feed

First I will apologise if this is posted in the wrong section.

I have a simple query so hopefully one of you good people can help me. I have a standard Sky mini-dish with a quad LNB fitted. Two feeds go to a Sky HD box and the other two feed Sky boxes in other rooms.

I bought a Sky HD box from that well know auction site and would like to add another LNB feed so my wife can use it for recording her programs. Will I need another dish fitted? If another dish is necessary then I may add another quad LNB and upgrade the other box too.

No, you won't need another dish .............. Octo LNBs are now freely available for Sky Dishes, so you can increase from 4 to 8 outputs by changing the LNB and adding cables as required.
 
Just buy an Octo lnb and run a new feed to the box :D

You can basically then run 4 Sky+ boxes.

Ebay item number 380336874805 should do the trick. You should be able to change the lnb yourself if you can reach it.

Just make sure the skew is set the same. If the quad is set at position 2 set the octo at position 2.

You may also have to adjust the dishes elevation up slightly as the lnb may pull the arm down if its slightly heavier than the quad.

I was just mulling this over in my head. Have checked the signal strength via the Sky box and it seems okay but when it rains we always lose the picture. As I am getting a new Octo LNB is it worthwhile getting a new dish to replace the current Sky Mini dish?

Up to you.

A properly aligned Zone 1 dish should be ok for you in all but the very most extreme weather, so your occasional loss of picture suggests the alignment is not quite correct.

So you still have some aligning to do whether you carry on with the old dish or decide to replace it.

You might find it easier to tweak the current dish (if the various bolts can be loosened!) than to have to fully re-install.

Depends upon your abilities and confidence.

Cheers. Back in the days of analogue I used to fit satellite but I don't have the kit any more. Sadly I also had a car crash so health grounds won't allow it....sometimes I cannot remember what happened yesterday let alone 25 years ago when I was fitting systems! My current dish is fitted at low level so I don't need a ladder or anything. The current signal is only running 70% input 1 and 60% input 2 so perhaps a realignment is in order.

BTW is CT100 okay for the new 3m cable run?
