Advice neede for newbie

My Satellite Setup
sky sat dish with sky + hd reciever.
My Location
Southampton, United Kingdom
Hi guys, i hope you'll bear with me. At the moment i have a sky+ HD system of which I've just replaced the burst capacitors and resistors and upgraded the hard drive to a 1TB drive, this is all setup in my room in the attic. My mother has a freeview box £20 box from Asda wired through the standard ariel, as you can imagine cr*p reception, I also have a few ify stations. So I've been looking into improving this situation.
The 1st thing I can gather is bigger is better regarding dish size, now the more i look into this world of yours in regards to the amount of gear out there and some of you guys have some serious equipment set up motorised dishes and all.

My main question now is why you've spent so much on picking up other foreign satellite's where non of its in english are you all multilingual? What am I missing out on here?

A. The main thng is being able to. Seeing if you can get a fringe sat. A picture tells a thousand words. Setting it all up and seeing if you can improve it a week latet. We are all bonkers. But why do so many watch a few blokes kick a ball around? Beats me.

this is a good question.
i speak italian verry well after 38 years but i have no sky italia here at all.
i have digital free here in the house there are some programs i watch on italian tv like the 8 pm news and a few funny shows.
sky uk is ahead of the italian conterpart most of the 2008 movies are a few weeks behind hbo usa.
i suspect there are some sports that some other providers show for free that one would have to pay for.
i suspect someone had hacked the codes to watch sports that are transmitted of other providers not sky uk.

as for the reception on your mother's system there must be a signal problem the free view on the standard areal should come in clear.

Many channels are broadcast using more than one language, including English.
There are far too many satellites, and channels, to go through a full list of what's available, including feeds, and the size of dish required to receive them.
Check out lyngsat:

Check the satellites between 42 East and 30 West, also click on a few of the beam headings, this will provide a map showing the approximate size of dish required to view that channel, also look at the languages listing, to see which languages it broadcats.

Not with a Sky box though, as they do not conform to the standard required for multi-satellite reception.
