Advice needed for New Boy

My Satellite Setup
Sky HD, Apple Powermac with Apple Air - Bang & Olufsen BeoVision 6
My Location

Hi guys, I have been a sparky for the last 3 years but have always wanted to get into tv/satellite installation.

I usually install the Coaxial and cat5 when wiring up new builds to installer specs, but never get to see the final results.

I have just spoken to RDI and filled in an application form to become a registered installer, I already have my working at heights and all relevant ppe. I am also covered by a criminal record check and £4 Million Public Liability Insurance.

I then spoke to my local college about enrolling on the NVQ2 required but was a little bit put out to find this course has no classroom training. The assesor said he will come out and observe me installing and check it is done to relevant guidelines. Is there anywhere I can get some good knowledge on (Books, courses etc) I am also thinking of contacting any local installers and offering to work for free a few days a week to gain experience.

I own all relevant hand tools, have compression fitting tools and crimps and am now wanting to purchase a Combi meter. Can anyone recomend a good one that is easy to use but will give good results? I will only ever really be installing Analog and Digital aerials with the occasional freesat and sky install. I did take a look at a Digiair Pro but it doesn't look like it does Analog or Satellite.

Could anyone advise on a suitable meter??

Thanks in advance

Hi, for good starter metres you can't go far wrong with swires digiscan 007 sat metre and the swires terry. Both reasonably priced and decent user interface. Goodluck and keep an eye out for the seagulls. Rgds Rob.
