Hi All,

Some guidance and information please. I am due to move to
Germany later this year and would like to know how I can receive mainstream UK TV channels. I am not interested in Sky but understand it is possible to receive some UK channels free via satellite. What equipment would I need and are there any PVRs that would work. I currently own a Topfield 5800 but I assume this would be of no use. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Tim

If you just want the free channels (BBC, ITV - from next year) shopping channels etc, then an appropriately sized dish for your new home (size required depends on where in Germany you are moving to) and any digital receiver. If you want C4, C5 and the forthcoming Sky 3 then you will need a Skybox and a ftv card.

FTV cards £20
Reciever, get something flexible - the Technomate seems quite popular at present or you might consider a Dreambox.
Dish size, still don't know where you intend relocating to, Germany is a big place ;)

If you are in the UK at present get a Sky box (new //secondhand)and apply for a FTV card to your UK adress. Then get Technomate receiver possibly TM1500+ . (You may need Dragon cam as it is compatable with NDS and can be used with Sky cards) Possibly a one meter dish may suffice but depending on your location you can be more precise when you get there and dishes should be readly avalable in the area if you can not bring one over. Try Lyngsat for the footprint of the channels you require and it will help you to work out dish sizes.
Hope this helps....gilleroo

I currently live in south west Germany and receive all the FTA channels
at 28°e with little or no problems but I have heard the reception can
be spotty from astra 2d but I would assume you should need nothing bigger then
a 80cm at the most and possibly even a 60 like me. Its location, location as they say.

An 80cm should be fine there for 2D and all the BBC channels.
