Hi everyone.
I have a problem with my Sky reception and was looking for advice.I constantly get the " No satellite signal" sign on several channels, sports, films etc. I have spoken to Sky who say it is a transponder problem and need to call out an engineer ( £65). I can sometimes get it to clear if i switch back and forward several times between a free channel, 101 for example and the faulty channel. I have changed the lnb, and it seemed to cure the problem for around a week then went faulty again.
Sky box is a grundig. I asume that if it is a box problem i would be as well calling Sky as the £65 includes all parts etc.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Various things this could be, a more detailed description would help!

(yes, a new digibox is often the esaiest solution, if it's faulty!).

1) Go up and down, though quite a lot of channels.

2) Is the problem random, or does it occur in a particular place/channels?

3) Is the box saying "no signal"? That's possibly a failing power supply.

4) Are you getting pixilation (breaking up into tiny squares)? That would be low signal, but a bit strange just on one channel if others are working!

Is it happening all the time? We've had some sh1t weather this w/e with lots of cloud......could be reducing signal. Can you try your box at friends house? and vice versa? Car boot sounds good if you can find one at this time

hi im told that if you tell sky you want to cancel contract because of said problem they will fix it for nothing . providing your not tied in to a contract . on the other hand they might call your bluff and take all away for xmas .

Could be nothing to do with this but i had the same problem recently with my box , apparently to ther sites my make of box has a common fault being a person who owns this grundig box and a panasonic one , its most likely the dish has gone a bit out of alignment , this was the problem with my box , and after realinment it should work ok , i dunno if it may cure your problem , but try it , it might help

ps, excuse my bad spelling

is that the LNB isn't switching between horizontal and vertical reliably (which is why you get the channels sometimes, but not at all at other times). As mentioned, this may be the power supply. Personally I would have a look at the power supply and replace any capacitors that appear to be 'bulging', but if the unit is under 2 years old then I believe that it should be covered under warranty (European Law), so get the supplier / manufacturer to sort it out free - once you have confirmed that it is the box at fault.

Coincidently,my mate who fixes digiboxes had two grundigs in recently which couldn't get channel 5 and some others and the problem was some capacitors in the power supply.problem solved.
