Ajak H-H motor restoration/modification

Trash can named "My SAT-playground" becoming too busy, so will start this thread to show progress (if any) on restoration and possible modifications of Ajak H-H motor I have got couple of years ago. Will leave history there but all news about this motor will post here. Hopefully, another users will contribute and maybe get some ideas for their projects.
So, elevation control..... I got block of aluminum another day, made 2 holes in it, will try to fix it to the mount. Hopefully that will work fine.
(holes were drilled on lathe).

And then, suddenly, everything fell to the ground and so badly that electrical motor is not usable anymore (everything is cracked and bent). IMG_20160513_100420 (Custom).webp
Already went to car-graveyard and picked up 3 similar motors. One of them from Russian truck Kamaz ( 24V DC), one is from MB (made in Germany) and third one made in England (car is unknown). Will see, maybe I could be able to adjust one of them. IMG_20160513_132125 (Custom).webp
What can I say...... Friday 13th! :eek: I think it is only safe to drink some beer today, not touching anything that can break.

You'r not the only one , sh*t happens to me too .
One of the new Technirotors slipt out of my hand and fell on the ground , plastic coverbroken !!
Had to order a new one
 
Was trying to fix problems the rest of the day. Damage to original 36V motor is terrible, even worm shaft is bent. IMG_20160513_163518 (Custom).webp
From 3 motors I brought from scrap-yard one (made in England) fitted to the existing holes, only 10mm spacers needed IMG_20160513_145618 (Custom).webp . But I did not like how motor itself worked- not smooth movement but some kind of step-by-step. Same movement was in case of BMW motor. So, only one candidate left, and that is 24V motor from KAMAZ. This motor is quiet and moves smoothly. Was forced to cut little bits from 3 legs IMG_20160513_151617 (Custom).webp and also to make adapter plate (5mm INOX) IMG_20160513_224941 (Custom).webp . Making of this plate took lots of effort and time. KAMAZ motor has 74 teeth (original Ajak motor has 70) IMG_20160513_165447 (Custom).webp , and on 24Volts shaft makes one turn in 2 seconds. BTW, I have found person who has spare Ajak motor and ready to give it to me. Will see how my new motor works, if not good- will go to original one.

Good work. But the catastrophic damage is hard to comprehend.
 
Good work. All those Kamazes are still polluting the streets of Russia!

Where do you find these Ajaks? I've never seen one for sale anywhere second hand
 
You know what, it is shame to say, but.... in reality, Friday 13th was a good day, and I starting to like the fact that I broke original Ajak motor :eek: . Why? Just because I like the new motor more, it looks shiny (after I cleaned it), but, which is more important, it has possibility to change the speed of turning by switching the wires. In one way speed can be 1 turn in 2 seconds, another position gives turn in 1,6 seconds. And, of course, there is always possibility to decrease voltage and have even bigger variation of speed.
Will paint this motor in some original color (not navy-blue this time).

Not racing at all , with the original chainwheel ratio at the new motor , the dish will turn 0.5º / seconds
Ajak specs telling 150º in 70 / 80 sec. = ± 2º / sec.
Unfortunately I never counted the rotations of the Ajak motor .
 
Ajaks were assembled in factory and does not have possibility to fine-adjust of the worm-gear. Of course, it is possible to adjust it anyway, but with these small modification (in red circle), it is possible to adjust the gear very precisely (I hope so :rolleyes: ). Will test this process when electrical motor is ready to turn the gear.

Not much, just update on the progress. Adopted original cog-chain-wheel to new electrical motor. Drilled couple of holes for 16mm nuts in the vertical pipe. Painted electrical motor in strange color ;) . Repainted everything in navy-blue (no pictures yet).
The questions are: Should I use 2-speed capability of the new electrical motor? What would be electrical chart for all the connections?
Will be making new magnet-wheels for pulse-counting ~67mm in diameter wit 16.3mm central hole.

Do you think thats necassary Rimant ? 0.5º / second is already very slow , do you really need go down to 0.4º / second ?
 
Brought Ajak out of the garage and started some tests. Speed is quiet slow, it goes H-H in ~4 minutes. Made several magnet-wheels (without magnets yet), they are 72mm in diameter. I think those wheels can adopt many magnets (of course depending on the magnet size. Did not figured out how to properly adjust worm-gear, perhaps by measuring amperes used by electrical motor.
There is small (really small) video of something moving. ;)

Got bunch of 5mm magnets for magnet-wheel. Will experiment with different # of magnets after.

Installed Ajak to new stand inside the garage. Does not mean I am doing some work on it but just in case..... For sure, now it will not accidentally fall to the ground.
